SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:To assist Device RN in providing patient care during interrogation and testing of implantable pacemakers & defibrillators as well as provide patient teaching of remote home monitoring systems.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Conduct job duties in accordance with CVA’s policies and procedures.

Perform patient teaching of correct usage of remote home monitoring systems.

Perform patient escort to & from device lab, as well as appropriate hook-up to device programmers.

Assist Device RN with data entry, orders and billing within EMR and device repository systems.

Perform transtelephonic pacemaker checks, when working within the TTM lab.

Maintain files and update computer data.

Create orders and perform electronic billing on all tests, submit to CBO.

Communicate with patients, referring physicians and hospital personnel to maintain consistent timely follow-up on patients.

Relay & retrieve TTM & RHM reports to & from the designated physicians in a timely manner.

Obtain new implant data from hospital catheterization lab, enter data into EMR and Device Repository Database, create physical device chart.

Prepare Patient Discharge Information folders & give appropriate type instruction folder to patients being seen in the clinic for the postop visit.

Print Pacemaker home monitoring reports for Pacemaker RN review. Create appointment & orders, then electronically generate bill for service & reschedule next transmission according to specific protocol. Call patient to confirm receipt.

Perform scanning of HL documents into EMR, tasking if necessary.

Retrieve patient voicemail from HL phone line, return patient calls.

Review task basket within EMR, return patient calls that relate to technical issues.

Monitor Heart Lab inventory in Device Labs and TTM area, notifying Heart Lab Clerical Coordinator of any supplies needed.

Assist with other Heart Lab duties as necessary, i.e. phone calls, cross-coverage in Holter area, filing & distribution of reports, preparation of statistics for department.

Maintain patient confidentiality.

Perform work-related duties as directed. The job duties and responsibilities of the Pacemaker Technician include, but are not limited to the previously described areas of duties and responsibilities.

Adhere to compliance policies and procedures. Report any incident that appears unusual and/or deficient to department supervisor/manager of the compliance department.

QUALIFICATIONS:Education: High School Graduate (GED). (Emphasis on curriculum in basic science and mathematics.)Experience: Cardiology clinic experience preferred. Good computer skills, word processing and data entry. Basic knowledge of cardiac anatomy & physiology.Physical/Mental Demands: Varied activities including standing, sitting, walking, stooping, lifting, bending, reaching. Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Must be able to use correct body mechanics to assist patients appropriately. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Ability to push or pull mobile equipment on casters up to 500 pounds, including but not limited to device programmer equipment, wheelchairs, patient stretchers, medical recliner, stress equipment and emergency “crash cart”. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Must be able to use a variety of office equipment including phone, writing instruments, PC, fax.
