What We Need:

We are looking for a Quality Engineer to join our HNI Workplace Furnishings team in Cedartown, GA

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Record and report information to management to support continuous improvement and quality initiatives
  • Develop and maintain quality control processes (Layered Process Audits, Out of Box Audits, Certified Inspection)
  • Support production on quality standards / systems and communicate constraints effectively
  • Work directly with suppliers on Production Part Approval Process, quality standards and root cause/corrective action for any nonconforming material
  • Train and provide quality direction for members over finished product audits and process improvement
  • Coordinate and work cross-functionally with Operations, Quality, Engineering, Sales, customers and members assisting in process and product improvement plans and status
  • Lead Rapid Continuous Improvement events while instilling quality culture
  • Participate in projects efficiently and with high-quality expertise in accordance with established deadlines.

Education Required and/or Preferred:
  • Bachelor's degree required, preferable in engineering.
  • In rare exceptions, based on employment market and/or company need around a specific niche skillset; a combination of experience, responsibility and prior professional accomplishment will be considered as equivalent to a four year degree.

Experience Required and/or Preferred:
  • Level 1: College graduate - no appreciable experience or less than 3 years of engineering experience.
  • Level 2: 2 years of progressive HNI engineering experience or advancement through the HNI developmental program or 3 years of external engineering experience. Promotion to this level will be based on performance and potential.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong interpersonal skills with attention to detail
  • Demonstrated successful implementation of continuous process improvement programs
  • Experience with Project Management encompassing start-to-finish planning and execution
  • Strong Communication skills with ability to motivate and influence others, as well as interact productively with members within all levels of the organization and external suppliers and customers
  • Advanced computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite)
  • Proficient understanding of capability studies, Production Failure Mode Effect Analysis, A3 and 8D tools
  • Resourcefulness in problem solving
  • Knowledge and experience with Production Part Approval Process
  • Ability to read Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing prints

Reporting Relationships:
  • This position may have hourly and/or salaried direct reports across multiple shifts.

Physical Conditions:
  • Climbing stairs to access office and attend meetings is required
  • The operations environment has extreme fluctuations in temperature, humidity and dust
  • Sitting/standing at a work station for up to an entire scheduled work day
  • Moderate need to move/lift heavy items, up to 40 lbs.
  • PPE required for the shop floor of safety shoes, ear plugs and eye protection/safety glasses

Travel Requirements: Limited travel as required, less than 10%
