RTI International is currently seeking motivated and independent individuals for Part Time and Full Time Field Interviewers for the POSITEv Study. As a Field Interviewer (FI), you will prepare for and conduct data collection operations according to project protocols, and at the project designated best days and times in an effort to maximize efficiency and production. The ideal days and times would be Sat after 10-am, Sun after 2-pm, and weekday evening from 4-8pm. You will ensure that field data collection activities are carried out in an efficient and cost-effective manner. The project must ensure that the data collected is of the highest quality and all activities are conducted in a professional manner following established procedures. POSITEv utilizes CARI review (Computer Assisted Recorded Interview) on the laptop to ensure adherence to project protocols and monitor the FIs work. Ideal candidates are comfortable the data collected is of the highest possible quality and all activities are conducted in a professional manner following established procedures. Ideal candidates are comfortable working frequently in both urban, inner-city and rural areas, and making unexpected home-visits to interview pre-selected study participants.

About the Study:

The Point of Sale Intervention for Tobacco Evaluation or POSITEv is a research study sponsored by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The study is designed to collect information from about 4,200 adults across the country about ads they have seen and their attitudes towards smoking and the programs that help smokers who want to quit. Study participants were initially screened and interviewed in-person between July and December of 2018. Previous participants will be contacted by mail and asked to complete a follow-up questionnaire online. Field interviewers will follow-up with those who do not respond to the web survey to complete the questionnaire in-person on a laptop computer. We are currently hiring interviewers for the second wave of data collection, which will take place from April through mid-June 2019. Additional waves of data collection in late 2018, 2019 and 2020 may provide additional employment opportunities. The third wave of in-person data collection is scheduled for mid-September through November of 2019. The final wave of data collection is scheduled for March through mid-May 2020.

Field Interviewers are Responsible For:

Engaging people from diverse backgrounds in various communities to obtain cooperation of household members by effectively answering questions and addressing concerns about continuing participation in this study

Making in-person contact with selected households to conduct follow-up field interviews with previously interviewed respondents

Accurately completing all project documents and reports including interviewer observation surveys, interview-related paperwork, and any other reporting forms while adhering strictly to project deadlines

Demonstrating the ability to work with your supervisor, complete assignments on schedule, and keep your supervisor informed of problem areas that might affect progress

Assume full and legal responsibility for use and care of all cash incentives, laptops, and other items provided.

Maintaining accurate, up-to-date records of progress in the field and transmit data to RTI each morning and evening that you work and a minimum of 3 times per week

Submitting timely and accurate time and expense reports

Remaining available for possible overnight travel if remote segments are part of the assignment area

Completing and send Nightly Reports to your Fs to keep him/her apprised of your days progress

Working with your FS in a supportive relationship to complete a realistic, attainable weekly work plan which involves case review, goal setting, managing expectations, and production

Following through with agreed upon weekly workplans

Maintaining a professional, cooperative relationship with your Field Supervisor and other project staff, objectively sharing your thoughts while displaying an understanding of project management's concerns.

Ideal Candidates Have the Following Attributes:

Positive, self-motivated, curious, and enjoy interacting with people from culturally-diverse backgrounds

Effective time, schedule, and workload management skills to meet set deadlines

Computer skills, namely email and internet proficiency

Additional Required Qualifications:

High school graduate with 1 year of experience directly or indirectly related to experience in interviewing.

Applicants must be at least 21 years of age by the first date of employment.

Reliable, personal automobile available for business use along with a registered Driver's license and auto insurance

Effective communication skills through speech and listening, and fluency in English through reading, writing, and speaking

Ability to read text verbatim from a tablet screen and paper documents

Willingness to work in different types of neighborhoods and homes

In-person completion of household interviewing of selected sampled adults over a data collection period from April through June of 2019

Password-protected wireless internet connection for data transmissions and administrative responsibilities

Regular access to a telephone to use in attending conference calls with supervisors and managers and in contacting respondents to encourage study participation and schedule appointments

Able to keep project information private and all data confidential

Available to work a schedule of approximately 25-30 non-travel* hours per week to conduct contacting/screening/interviewing starting immediately after training and throughout the field production period

Available and willing to work primarily weekends (Saturday after 10 am and Sunday after 2pm) and weekday evenings (4-8pm), including at least 12 hours "production time", contacting/screening/interviewing sampled households between Saturday and Sunday (weekly).

Available to spend at least 4 consecutive hours of "production time" (not counting travel time) contacting/screening/interviewing sampled households during each visit to the field.

Training & Pay:

Travel to, attend and successfully complete a mandatory, all expenses paid three-day training session tentatively scheduled for April 2nd-4th in Raleigh, North Carolina or another TBD location - Including certification, in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina. Periodically, successfully complete all components of on the job and veteran FI trainings will be required.

This position falls under the Services Contract Act (SCA). Hourly wage will be determined based on the county in which work is being performed. The pay rate for Marshall County, Alabama is $16.81/hour. In addition to hourly pay, a Health and Welfare stipend of $4.41 per hour will be provided for up to 40 hours per week.
