The Boeing Company is looking for a Mid-Level Systems Safety Engineer - Model Based Safety Analysis Architect to join our Enterprise Safety team within the Product and Services Safety Organization (P&SS) in one of the following locations: Mesa, AZ, El Segundo, CA, Hazelwood, MO, Houston, TX, Huntington Beach, CA, Huntsville, AL, Long Beach, CA, Oklahoma City, OK, Plano, TX, Ridley Park, PA, or Washington DC.

This position will serve as a key technical specialization capability deploying the MBE (Model Based Engineering) acceleration across Enterprise (BDS, BCA and BGS) by supporting development of Model Based Safety Analysis (MBSA) solutions applying industry best practices like ARP4761, ARP4754, and MIL-STD-882E. Plan and implement Safety Engineering processes to integrate the Aerospace and Defense Development "V" into a Digital Transformation future state.

This position will also require working with organizations within/across the business units and contribution to the development of novel engineering methods, processes, training and tools consistent with Boeing's Safety Management System (SMS). The candidate should have been a practitioner in the Systems Engineering Technical domain throughout the standard Product Life Cycle (such as requirements development, system design, analytical process formulation, verification planning, testing, etc.).

The individual will need to be a self-starter, highly adept in the identification and solving problems, able to understand the big design picture (larger than just MBSA), able to take initiate to research complex matters and formulate implementable solutions. The selected candidate will be a core member of a fast paced, productive, close-knit and geographically diverse safety team and work both independently and as part of team. Strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to resolve cross-functional technical issues are also required.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with systems, design and project engineers to develop, benchmark and implement an integrated MBSA tool suite consisting of Safety Analysis solution kits
  • Investigating existing safety analysis tools to digitally connect, store, and integrate critical safety deliverables into the MBSA tool suite
  • Lead Safety Functional discussions with programs across the enterprise to help identify, design, and build highly complex and important integration within the larger Business Architecture
  • Program Outreach and Communication with other MBE users, Solution/System Architecture Leads, and Division Systems Engineering leaders
  • Identification and prioritization of program needs to improve MBSA tool suite
  • Manage support of program issues with MBSA tools and methods upon deployment
  • Develop and provide MBSA startup solutions for new and existing Programs
  • Ensure SMS goals are well understood in the development of model-based methods
  • Contribute to the develop of technical strategies
  • Participate and potentially lead Agile scrum teams


This position allows some telecommuting; however onsite work will be required one of the listed location options. Note: The expectation for this role is flexible but aimed at 2 days onsite and 3 days remote.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret clearance Post-Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
  • Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry
  • 2+ years of experience in systems safety engineering, systems engineering or data analytics in the aerospace and/or automotive industry
  • Experience working with model-based systems engineering


Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
  • Experience with requirements management/definition, safety/reliability analysis, architectural definitions, system integration, system modeling, tool integration
  • Experience with aircraft system safety analysis guidelines such as Mil-STD-882E, ARP4761, ARP4754
  • Experience with aerospace systems engineering and the ability to visualize how information technology opportunities might be used to further the goals of the organization
  • Experience working effectively with diverse engineering teams with an aptitude for taking initiative
  • Experience leading cross functional teams and complex projects
  • Experience in Modeling and Simulation
  • Experience with tools such as Cameo, Rhapsody or Enterprise Architect and knowledge of SysML and UAF
  • Experience with 3DX, Simulink, DOORS, MODELICA, MatLab and similar
  • Experience with different software languages and ability to write scripts
  • Experience working with agile methodologies


Typical Education/Experience:
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET

accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
