Boeing's Advanced Design and Prototype Solutions (ADaPS) organization in Huntsville, AL is looking for a Lead Software Engineer capable of contributing to all phases of the software development lifecycle (requirements, architecture, implementation, and verification).

ADaPS is a problem solving team which specializes in using our software and systems engineering expertise to help Boeing solve tough problems and build excellent products. As an organization of approximately 100 engineers spanning software and systems engineering, ADaPS has supported programs across the entire portfolio of Boeing products including Space Launch Systems (SLS), Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD), Commercial Space Crew Transportation System (CCTS), B-52 Bomber modernization, the Navy's MQ-25 autonomous airborne refueling platform, and multiple advanced missile defense efforts.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to all phases of the software development lifecycle (requirements, architecture, implementation, and verification).
  • Assist with analysis, test, modification, and enhancement of a complex legacy codebase.
  • Work in small to medium sized Agile teams composed of diverse engineering skills to tackle complex problems on a variety of programs.
  • Responsible for developing technical products, plans, documentation, and briefings in support of program requirements.
  • Guide the implementation and testing of designs by less experienced engineers.


This position allows telecommuting. (Hybrid) The selected candidate will be required to perform most work onsite at one of the listed location options. (Huntsville, AL)

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skill/Experience):
  • 7+ years of experience developing software for real-time systems.
  • Expertise in debugging and troubleshooting technical problems involving computer memory or timing considerations.


Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
  • Experience with systems architecture, requirements analysis, test, and verification.
  • Experience with Agile software development.
  • Experience programming in Ada, C, C, or similar language.
  • Knowledge of Radar, communications, missile, GN&C (guidance, navigation & control), or similar technology.
  • A positive attitude towards learning, software quality, and teamwork.
  • Experience leading software development engineers or teams.


Typical Education/Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+9 years' related work experience, Master+12 years' related work experience).

In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard
