The Senior Staff Accountant works in activities related to the general ledger and accounts payable within the Fiscal Services department. This position assists with ensuring the financial systems are accurate and in accordance with professional accounting practices and governmental regulations. The Senior Staff Accountant provides training and assistance to other accounting department staff, as requested. The position completes projects as assigned by the Accounting Manager, including financial analysis and accounting functions, as well as provides financial interpretation and assistance to other departments. This position requires a high degree of confidentiality and professional judgment.

Job Duties

1. Prepares draft financial reports to determine or maintain record of assets, liabilities, tax liability, and other financial activities within the organization. Analyzes financial information in conjunction with the Accounting Manager.

2. Prepares financial reports to be utilized by the Accounting Manager. Utilizes multiple information systems efficiently and effectively.

3. Implements accounting policies, internal control procedures, and the preparation of operating data and special reports as required, including interim and year-end financial statements. Maintains Hope's system of accounts and keep books and records on all transactions.

4. Prepares journal summaries for posting to the general ledger, deposits posted to the general ledger, and coordinates month-end closing for accounts payable and the general ledger.

5. Reviews spreadsheets and other supporting documentation for journal entries and ensures the reconciliation of general ledger accounts.

6. Coordinates the preparation and timely submission of all Accounts Payable invoices. Prepares reports for government agencies, including preparation of all applicable schedules for submission within required deadlines.

Qualifications

Education

- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field required. Experience in lieu of education may be accepted on a two for one basis in appropriate fields.

Experience

- Three years of direct accounting experience required; experience in accounts payable and preparation of financial statements preferred.
