Cook Inlet Native Head Start Grow Our Own Teachers Program

Alaska has a shortage of early childhood educators and very little qualified Alaska Native early childhood teachers. The Cook Inlet Native Head Starts Grow Our Own Teachers Program is intent on developing and promoting a qualified competent network of teachers for our Native Children. Through this program, participants will obtain vocational training needed to secure positions within the early education field that offer the opportunity for advancement and sustainability and lead to a pathway of financial self-sufficiency.

Program Includes:

o Earn your Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential„. This is the Head Start recognized credential for infants and toddlers and is a key stepping stone on the path of career advancement in early childhood education.

o $14 per hour stipend for those participating in this full time professional training opportunity.

o Two hours of direct instruction and six hours of classroom experience every day to complete a six hundred hour program.

General Eligibility Requirements:

o 18 year of age and High School Diploma or GED

o Alaska Native/American Indian preference

o Review of criminal history/background check.

To Enroll in the Grow Our Own Teachers Program:

o Submit an Application and 3 letters of Recommendation

o Complete an Eligibility Screening

o Complete Program Intake, fingerprinting, and background check
