Coffman Engineers' Anchorage office is seeking a highly skilled, Instrumentation and Control System Engineer to join our team in applying expertise to a variety of diverse and challenging projects. The successful candidate will have experience with instrumentation and control system design, configuration, and testing from concept to completion in the oil and gas and water and wastewater process control environments. Knowledge of and experience with PLC programming, HMI development, and SCADA application programming is preferred. Applicants must be well versed in project delivery methods and instrumentation and electrical system design for industrial, commercial, and military projects working as an integral member of a multidiscipline engineering team. Please submit a cover letter as well as a resume for consideration.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Work on projects from concept to completion including; project scoping, control philosophy development, design development, installation support, functional checkout and system commissioning.

• Develop engineering scope of work based on client requirements including but not limited to; P&ID's, specifications, concept reports, etc. to specify and develop complete instrument and control system design

• Perform material take-offs and estimates, develop detailed Bill of Materials (BOMs)

• Develop design deliverables for a variety of systems including control philosophy, panel drawings, loop drawings, logic diagrams, wiring diagrams, process flow diagrams, P&IDs, cause and effect matrixes, etc.

• Develop control system design drawings in AutoCAD.

• Develop control system specifications.

• Design and develop PLC and HMI applications based on given (or developed) requirements and specifications

• Configuration of hardware and control system Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) per application specifications

• Collaborate with other project team members to comply with project requirements and meet project schedules

• Review and approve fabricator and external design drawings, documentation and fabrication sequence

• Review, repair, and update or re-design legacy control system logic

• Troubleshoot issues with existing installed systems

• Technical writing including developing performance specifications, sequence of operations, alarm management plans, user/operating manuals, spare parts list, etc.

• Maintain company standards for quality.

• Practice safe work habits and comply with all company and client safety requirements.

• Perform other duties as assigned by the Department Manager.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

• Energetic self-starter with strong leadership skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a design team to provide solutions to technical challenges.

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related discipline

• 5-10 years Instrumentation & Control system design, development, maintenance and testing experience.

• Registration as a Professional Engineer is a plus

• Proven abilities in control system design, engineering, start up, testing and implementation phases of a project

• Strong electrical and mechanical aptitude and hands-on experience desired.

• Able to travel within Alaska to customer sites for site surveys, functional checkout, startup and training.

• Ability to work independently and provide solutions to technical challenges.

• Excellent communication, interpersonal and customer relation skills

• Strong computer skills with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and AutoCAD.

• Experience with Programming Logic Controllers (PLC) (e.g. Allen-Bradley, Siemens)

• Experience with MI/OI systems (e.g. Allen Bradley, GE, Wonderware)

• Superior communication, organizational and analytical abilities required to communicate company and client needs with other departments and outside vendors at all levels of an organization.

• In-depth knowledge of industry codes and standards and design methods such as ASME, API, ISA, and UL 508A with a technical/engineering controls background.

• Knowledge of current electrical safety standards such as NEC and OSHA

TECHNOLOGY REQUIREMENTS:

• Understand P&ID Plans and Industry Specifications

• SCADA Hardware and Software

• PLC programming using ladder logic and/or function block

• HMI programming

• Proficient in Design/Drafting Tools (AutoCAD)
