The job of Communications Superintendent is established for the purpose/s of coordinating Electronic Technician (ET) and Network Support Technician maintenance program(s) and related activities; supervising assigned skilled Comms/Network trades people; and implementing and maintaining communications maintenance services within established guidelines and standards.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Manage the operation, maintenance and repair of VHF and UHF radio, radio and television broadcast equipment, including but not limited to antennas, cables, transmission lines, satellite dishes, receivers, descramblers, modulators, line amplifiers FM radio broadcast systems, connectors, and power supplies.
  • Manage the operation, maintenance, and repair of navigational (NAVAID) systems, Giant Voice speaker array system, and Land Mobile Radiator (LMR) assets.
  • Manage the operation, maintenance, and repair of Defense Red Switch Network and other long haul communications.
  • Manage the operation, maintenance, and repair of analog phones, VoIP phones, and vIPer phones.
  • Manage the operation, maintenance, and repair of LAN and WAN network systems, network hardware, user accounts, NIPR/SIPR, and computer software, hardware, and security.
  • Conduct surveys of proposed work to determine man-hours and materials required and prepare a cost estimate for assigned work.
  • Conduct periodic surveillance of construction projects to ensure maintainability as well as pre-acceptance inspections of communications systems and document any findings.
  • Serve as Assistant COMSEC Account Manager
  • This position does include supervision, training, and mentoring of employees.
  • Responsible for other duties assigned by management.

Qualifications and Certifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to attend and maintain a SECRET Clearance.


Skills, Abilities And Years of Experience

  • A minimum of eight (8) years of communications infrastructure experience in the construction and maintenance of facility communications systems. At least of (4) years of which were in a lead/supervisory capacity with emphasis in industrial communications applications.
  • Experience with electronic test equipment.
  • Experience with COMSEC
  • Experience with navigational aid systems including Automated Weather Observation Systems (AWOS), Distance Measuring Equipment (DME), VORTAC, and airfield lighting.
  • Experience with satellite communications, microwave communications, Ground-Air-Ground radios, LMRs, and Radio Repeater stations, and base stations.
  • Experience working with DISA and understanding of DISA authorizing documents
  • Experience in the construction, inspection, and maintenance of communications systems or a combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities desirable.
  • All facilities systems employees shall be maintenance journeymen or master technicians.
  • Driver's license.
  • Ability to attend and maintain a SECRET Clearance.
  • All persons employed for this contract must be U.S. citizens and qualified to obtain and/or maintain a personnel security clearance with the U.S. Government. Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. After receipt of an employment offer letter, applicants must complete the Standard Form 86 and be granted an interim Secret clearance by the U.S. Government before the deployment process can begin.
