United States Seafoods is a factory trawler company that fishes out of Alaska. We are looking for entry level and experienced crew members to work on board commercial factory trawler vessels. We are looking for full-time, long term employees who are willing to work a rotating schedule throughout the year.

JOB PURPOSE:

Prepare 3-4 meals per day for crew of 85. Coordinate with purchasing department to ensure galley is fully stocked with goods. Supervise galley and housekeeping crew of 5

POSITION SUMMARY:

United States Seafoods currently has an opening for a Cook to perform work on a seafood catcher-processor in the Bering Sea. The Cook shall have a minimum of three (3) years of experience working onboard a trawl vessel and have demonstrated experience in the planning and preparation of three or four daily meals for a crew of at least 85 people, this may include special dietary requests.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: This list is not intended to detail all aspects of the assigned work but is representative of the job's overall responsibilities.

· Ensure that all health code regulations are met

· Plan menus and maintain budgeted meal costs

· Ensuring that food variety for diversified crew and including proper nutritional and caloric levels of food for crew

· Enforce and uphold all company policies

· Responsible for communicating with the office and food vendors on food orders and incorrect orders received.

· Prepares food and supply orders for galley and housekeeping and manages inventory for maximum cost effectiveness and efficiency

· Promotes and maintains galley rules to enhance comfort and cleanliness of galley and common areas

· Maintains a high level of professionalism and customer service at all times

· Report to the Captain immediately all unsafe or un-seaworthy conditions

· Quality onboard is everyone's responsibility. All crewmembers are to strive to maintain the highest quality of product produced onboard the vessel.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

· Should be familiar with current sanitation requirements and procedures.

· Must be available to work 3 months at-sea at a time.

· Must be able to work with a diverse staff and crew.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

High School Diploma or GED certificate is required.

Minimum three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience in a cook/steward role aboard a sea-going vessel. Experience in the seafood industry a HUGE plus.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Must be able to board and exit a vessel without physical assistance by climbing up and down a gangway or using a Jacob's ladder (rope or chain). Must be able to climb (ascend) or descend one or more set of steep stairs or ladders inside and outside the vessel in all weather conditions.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Working aboard a catcher-processor can be hazardous, especially in stormy waters. While performing the duties of this job, you will be exposed to wet, cold and slippery conditions. You will experience storm-like conditions which will affect the movement of the boat.
