Director - Emergency Services:

POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Chief Nursing Officer, the Emergency Room will be responsible for the management of the department as delineated below.

Leadership:

Facilitates effective communication with all hospital staff, medical staff, patients, and families by providing and maintaining open lines of communication.

Collaborates with other departments to provide an effective interdisciplinary approach to patient care.

Promotes and supports a collaborative team atmosphere.

Responsible for timely 90 day and annual evaluation and reevaluation of employees per policy.

Develops and/or implements unit based, evidence based policies and procedures that guide and support services.

Supervises the use, maintenance and availability of equipment, supplies, and services as established by hospital policy.

Ensures staff compliance to corporate, division and hospital policies and procedures.

Keeps abreast of current therapeutic modalities and evidence based best practices within the nursing profession and communicates effectively to ensure staff has the information, tools and resources needed to perform duties.

Interviews and hires new employees as needed utilizing behavioral interviewing techniques.

Espouses and integrates a philosophy of quality care and sets an example for change and implementation of new concepts.

Complies with federal and state regulatory standards.

Oversees and develops various programs related to unit based services provided within the specialty.

Patient Satisfaction:

Responsible for employee, patient and physician satisfaction.

Utilizes HCAHPS reports and employee and physician survey data to meet established targets

Leads and models behaviors effectively setting a positive example for staff.

Finance:

Develops staffing patterns for the department ensuring adequate staffing and mix of personnel for safe quality patient care.

Manages daily staffing per HCA defined tools, meeting financial targets set for the department.

Effectively manages resources to minimize waste and maximize financial performance.

Education:

Fosters the growth and development of others through effective orientation and continuing education of staff.

Participates, monitors and drives compliance for required education within HealthStream/Competency Center in collaboration with the Education Department.

Manages all nursing core and unit based competencies within the HealthStream Competency Center.

Promotes quality care and patient satisfaction by encouraging and driving specialty standards set for department.License Required:

Registered Nurse for the State of Alaska

Certifications: BLS and ACLS, preferred.

Previous Management Experience Preferred

Experience:

5 years’ experience required. 10 years preferred in all aspects of Emergency Care Nursing.Previous management experience preferred

Education:

BSN Preferred. Post Graduate Degree Preferred

Knowledge of State of Alaska law, Nurse Practice Act, Federal/CMS regulations and Joint Commission standards
