JOB PURPOSE:

Be the consummate go-to person on the boat while wearing many hats.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for assisting the Captain and other managers of the vessel with the administration of their duties, communicating vessel information and needs to the United States Seafoods management team at the Seattle office and governmental agencies as required, as well as working with all crewmembers to assist them with their needs. The Purser is also the primary Safety Officer onboard with associated duties.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: This list is not intended to detail all aspects of the assigned work but is representative of the job's overall responsibilities.

· Medically trained (MEDPIC)

· Prepare/assist with the following vessel reporting and transmitting to the office:

· Ships Logs

· Mate's receipt/bill of lading

· Import observer data

· Generate E-harvest reports

· Cargo transfer log

· NPDES logs

· Production reports

· Injury/illness report

· Notice of Arrival/NVMC list

· Notice of Arrival/NVMC list

· Arrival/departure list to office

· Safety/Abandon ship drills

· Inventory reports

· NMFS Reports

· USCG 2692/2692B form

· Crew charge logs

· End of voyage statements

· Offload packet to office

· Medical/Drug logs

· Fishing licenses

· Vessel % participation

· Emergency draw requests

· Marine mammal reporting

· Prepare and record crew evaluations

· Assign rooms and prepare crew lists each trip.

· Ships store, office supply inventory and ordering

· Random drug testing each month as directed by Human Resources

· In charge of petty cash, including, requesting, dispersing, logging and reconciling.

· Assist with communicating to the office on a regular basis to keep informed of any potential situations, problems and solutions.

· Treat in coordination with MHS all injury and illnesses onboard.

· Keep regular inventory of medical supplies and order as needed.

· Coordinate crew change requirements between the office and vessel

· Administrate crew status change/extensions and other rate change paperwork as directed by Human Resources and Master.

· Enforce and uphold all company policies, including Anti-Harassment policy and the AAP policy.

· Ability to take direction and work as part of a team as well as independently on specified tasks

· Communicate on a daily basis with Captain and other department heads on production, quality and safety.

· Offload duties include; runs to the clinic, in town errands, parts pick up, post office and store runs

· Assign life rafts and emergency drill and station bills each trip

· Report to the Captain immediately all unsafe or un-seaworthy conditions

· Assist with drills as needed.

· Quality onboard is everyone's responsibility. All crewmembers are to strive to maintain the highest quality of product produced onboard the vessel.

· Ensure that the water samples are brought to Surefish.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

· Must be available to work 3 months at-sea at a time.

· Must be able to work with a diverse staff and crew

· Ability to exercise sound judgment, work well independently, prioritize duties and follow through tasks to completion

· Must be able to handle confidential matters, understanding the various laws and regulations apply to this which must be adhered to

· Must be able to handle competing priorities and deadlines effectively and respond well to last minute, high priority, and time sensitive projects

· Must be able to handle the pressure of constant interruptions

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

High School Diploma or GED certificate is required.

Minimum three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience in a purser role aboard a sea-going vessel. Experience in the seafood industry a HUGE plus.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Must be able to board and exit a vessel without physical assistance by climbing up and down a gangway or using a Jacob's ladder (rope or chain). Must be able to climb (ascend) or descend one or more set of steep stairs or ladders inside and outside the vessel in all weather conditions.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Working aboard a catcher-processor can be hazardous, especially in stormy waters. While performing the duties of this job, you will be exposed to wet, cold and slippery conditions. You will experience storm-like conditions which will affect the movement of the boat.
