Position Summary:

Icicle Seafoods, Inc., Seward facility, is a seafood processing plant which operates approximately 10 months out of the year with a seasonal work force ranging from 40 to 425 employees. The Employee Services Manager works under the direction of the Seward Plant Manager and under the guidance of the Corporate Human Resources Director on personnel-related matters. The Employee Services Manager is responsible for ensuring appropriate recruitment, hiring and onboarding of the seasonal workforce, maintaining employee relations and addressing employee concerns as they arise. The Employee Services Department manages day-to-day living and accommodations, housekeeping, meal preparation and service, break room staffing, laundry, janitorial, education, training, special events, recreation, and safety.

This is a year-round salaried position based in Seward, Alaska. It requires the Employee Services Manager to be available days, evenings and weekends during the plant’s operating season(s) and this position reports to the Plant Manager.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Directly interface with Plant Manager on issues related to employee benefits, campus life, morale, housing needs and services.

• Responsible for all aspects of the Seward Plant Human Resources department which includes employee recruitment, hiring, performance management and disciplinary action, coaching, termination and seasonal lay-off activities.

• Works closely with Corporate Human Resources Director and Department to ensure that the Seward operation is following company policies, standards and best practices.

• Works closely with Safety department including assisting with training, compliance, inspection, reporting, investigation and supervising night watch staff.

• Direct supervision of HR Assistants, Head Cook, Bunkhouse and Campground Managers, Laundry attendants and Janitorial staff, ensuring that respective duties are performed and related inventories are maintained.

• Work with Homer Operations Manager to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and Icicle Seafoods policies pertaining to safety and Human Resources at all Cook Inlet buying stations.

• Conduct prompt and thorough investigations regarding employee issues and complaints and consult with the Corporate Human Resources Director in a timely manner.

• Conduct training including supervisory training, respectful workplace training, employee orientations and policy training.

• Assume procedural responsibility for employment termination and completion of all necessary paperwork.

• Ensure that all employee data is up to date in UltiPro HRIS system.

• Work with supervisors on effective leadership and evaluation of employee performance.

• Ensure that the plant is in full compliance with all local, State, and Federal regulations as well as Icicle Seafoods policies in relation to Human Resources.

• Maintain complete and accurate confidential HR files as well as personnel and medical records.

• Work closely with and provide guidance and support Plant Manager, Plant Supervisors related to Human Resources.

• Serve as a local point of contact with employment-related regulatory agencies.

• Other duties or special projects as assigned.

Experience and requirements:

• 5 years’ experience in employee services or related occupation.

• Minimum of 2 years’ experience in human resources or employee relations.

• Strong dispute resolution/problem solving skills.

• Strong computer skills with MS Office.

• Previous experience using Applicant Tracking and HRIS systems.

• Previous experience overseeing food service and employee accommodations.

• Ability to motivate others and build high production teams through exemplary leadership.

• Effective verbal and written communication skills.

• Must be able to manage multiple tasks and priorities and easily adapt to changing situations.

Work Schedule:

• Year-round salaried position based in Seward, Alaska. The work schedule in Alaska requires working up to 16-hours per day and 7 days per week during the recruiting and production seasons. The remainder of the year will consist of standard business hours. Occasional recruiting trips will be needed in order to meet facility recruiting goals.
