Under the supervision of Fire Captain, the employee will provide asset protection to client facilities, property and the right-of-way and provide primary Fire and Rescue emergency response. Please note this is a rotational position in Valdez, AK working two weeks on/two weeks off. Housing in Valdez is not provided.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Able to proficiently speak, read, understand and write English

- High school diploma or equivalent

- Valid driver’s license and show proficiency in the ability to operate, to the client’s satisfaction, all fire vehicles and specialized apparatus where required

- State of Alaska Firefighter I Certification

- State of Alaska Fire Extinguisher Level II Work Card

- Emergency Trauma Technician Certification or ability to obtain with 120 days of hire

- Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC) or ability to obtain

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

- Provide primary fire and rescue emergency response

- Maintain emergency response apparatus and equipment

- Conduct preventative maintenance on fire system as assigned

- Perform monthly/annual inspections and maintenance of fire extinguishers

- Assist in delivering emergency response training to fire brigade and rescue team members.

- Assist in preparing pre-emergency plans

- Assist Alyeska Fire Safety Team in monitoring work in progress for compliance with work permits, policies, and regulations

- Maintain a high degree of physical capability and agility

- Shall be examined and certified as medically and physically fit as required by the NFPA Standard on Industrial Fire Brigades 2000 Edition, Sections 2-5 and 2-5.3.

- Physical fitness will be based on job-related physical performance requirements established by Alyeska’ Fire Manager and Corporate Medical Director.

- The medical and physical fitness certifications will be repeated annually as per NFPA 600 Sections 2-5.2 and 2-5.3.3.

- Perform high angle and confined space rescues

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

The employee will be required to live and work in a remote and confined workspace for extended periods of time and exposure to work assignments consisting of twelve-hour days and able to work day or night shifts as required. The majority of the work is performed in a remote setting with a wide variety of people in differing functions, personalities and abilities. There may be a lack of immediate access to critical medical services as well as urban community services.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The employee’s work requires routine walking, standing, bending and carrying items. Applicant will be required to successfully complete a post-offer pre-hire physical and Functional Capacity Exam.
