Opportunities for Lifelong Education (OLÉ!) is a non-profit organization with over 450 current members offering courses designed for adults over fifty in the greater Anchorage area. Now in its 12th year, OLÉ! is run by a very active board and volunteers, with the assistance of persons on contract for specific functions.

OLÉ! is seeking a motivated person to assist the curriculum committee with its responsibilities of developing course ideas and recruiting presenters. The work of the curriculum committee is central to the OLÉ! mission of providing course offerings for the members.

Scope of Services

The contractor will have a comprehensive understanding of the overall organizational system by which OLÉ! functions and will be responsible for the coordination of the system components relevant to course development and delivery. These system components include:

curriculum committee (CC); website and data system; course catalog editor; managers of classroom managers (MOMs); contractor for Program Assistance and Member Support (PAMS); operations committee; OLÉ! treasurer; and facilities committee.

The work of the contractor for curriculum support will be conducted both in person at committee meetings and independently through e-mail and phone and through the use of the website-based data system. OLÉ! does not provide a physical office space. The contractor must have a computer and up-to-date software suitable to the required tasks, and be well versed in their use.

Time Requirements

The most intensive time for the curriculum support contractor is from the week leading up to the start of course catalog production through to completion of the course catalog - approximately 20 hours of work per term for three terms. This occurs in late May/early June and late August for the fall term catalog; mid to late November for the winter term catalog, and February for the spring and summer catalog. In addition, the contractor has an active role in curriculum committee meetings - a minimum of four per term for three terms, May/June for fall term, Sept/Oct for winter term, and Jan/Feb for spring term - approximately four hours per meeting. The Operations Committee meets once per month September through May, each approximately two hours long. Additional independent work averages 6 hours per week except July and August. Anticipated hours per year 450 to 500.

Qualifications

Undergraduate degree from an accredited university.

Three years work experience in a relevant field.

Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage time efficiently.

Demonstrated ability to effectively use a website-based data system.

Have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Have facility with English grammar and editing.

Have strong organizational, problem solving and interpersonal skills.
