The Prevention and Education Specialist is a full time (40 hours per week) Monday to Friday 7:00am to 4:00pm schedule, non-exempt position responsible for providing educational training and primary prevention programming to the local community regarding domestic violence, dating violence, stalking, sexual assault and other forms of power based violence. This position is focused on implementing evidence based primary prevention programming aimed at reducing violence in our community. This position will work primarily in school settings.

Qualifications/Education:

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent, and two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in a community engagement program or an associate degree in Social Work, Psychology, Justice, Education, Public health or related field from an accredited institution.

Must possess a valid State of Alaska Driver's License

Preference:

Experience in training others about domestic violence and/or primary prevention.

Ability to deliver trainings utilizing presentation outlines, scripts, and visuals aids, including interactive activities.

Excellent public speaking skills.

Professional training or equivalent experience with domestic violence and power-based violence issues.

Knowledge of Federal and Alaska laws pertaining to domestic violence and knowledge of Anchorage community safety, police, medical, legal and other resources available.

Excellent written and verbal communications skills including basic computer skills utilizing AWAIC systems and programs. At minimum, proficiency in Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel and Power Point with a preference for proficiency in the presentation software Prezi.

Ability to prioritize, multi-task and be flexible in a fast-paced teamwork environment with the skill to handle sensitive issues in a mature and confidential manner and with integrity and compassion.

This position requires reliable transportation and a valid Alaska driver's license.

Essential Functions Include:

Provide educational presentations as requested to increase awareness of the agency.

Develop current information packets on training subject matter.

Assist in implementing a targeted community education plan to increase outreach to specific audiences, i.e. professional level trainings, youth, etc.

Assist in delivering primary prevention initiatives as identified by AWAIC, such as; Green Dot and/or Safe Dates.

Present domestic violence presentations to achieve program goals.

Remain current on all Federal and Alaska state laws affecting victims of domestic violence, including but not limited to: confidentiality, divorce, civil protective orders, and basic criminal procedure for domestic violence assault.

Remain updated on current information in the field of domestic violence through research, workshop, and training opportunities.

Attend and contribute in all required staff meetings and actively participate in the training of new staff and volunteers.

Maintain strong working relationships with partner agencies and other service providers.

Maintain record of presentation data for reporting purposes.

Acknowledge diversity reflected in the AWAIC program population and in the community at large and demonstrate a commitment to cultural competency.

Demonstrate the ability to engage in and role model direct conflict resolution and mediation.

Demonstrate the ability to communicate directly and respectfully.

Consistent and dependable attendance.

Other duties as assigned.
