POSITION SUMMARY: The primary role of the Resilience Coach is to provide effective, solution-focused individual and group coaching and/or workshops on commonly occurring life situations, to reduce the effects of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) relating to toxic stress, and for instruction on resiliency and wellness topics. The resilience coach will perform life skills assessments as appropriate and be a liaison and advocate for all Nine Star clients. This person will pave the way for vulnerable Alaskans seeking employment and education advancement. This is a full-time position.

MAJOR DUTIES:

Provide short-term individual solution focused coaching for clients who request support services that strengthen their ability to function, thrive, and become employed.

Become a trainer of staff in the area of building resilience in clients.

Organize a variety of educational and employment workshops to improve long-term success for clients as they advance academically and seek to reach their employment goals.

Develop and deliver workshops that include stress management; anger reduction; emotional regulation; processing past traumas coping with grief, anxiety, and work behaviors; etc.

Focus on coaching that builds an individual’s or family’s resilience.

Refer students and job seekers to community resources as appropriate to reduce barriers to life and work successes.

Manage a case load of job seekers to guide them through their employment process accessing programs inside & outside of Nine Star.

Document the activities of N2L participants.

MINIMUM POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

A Bachelor’s (preferably a Master’s) degree in social services, counseling, human services, or related field preferred.

Have a minimum of 5 years working with at-risk populations.

Willing to submit to and pass a full criminal background check.

Must maintain a clean driving record and dependable vehicle. DUI convictions/poor driving records will result in immediate termination of employment.

Knowledge of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and the impact of ACES on individuals and families.

Knowledge of the dynamics of alcohol and drug dependence, domestic violence, trauma, and how it affects and relates to employment and self-sufficiency.

The ability and skill to provide effectively deliver training to staff and program participants.

The ability to understand, be sensitive to, and have empathy for participants with mental health challenges including familiarity with making referrals to the appropriate entities.

Possess the ability to develop trusting, helping relationships and to work effectively with individuals and families from diverse racial, ethnic, religious, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Ability to intervene in crisis situations, using sound professional judgment, ethical practices, and common sense.

Work cooperatively within programs at Nine Star as well as outside agencies and programs on behalf of clients while maintaining confidentiality.

Carries the ability to communicate effectively by both oral and written communications.

Possesses excellent computer skills including, but not limited to Word, Excel, and FileMaker Pro (or other database experience) with an ability to master new computer programs quickly and process data accurately and efficiently.

Understands how to maintain professional boundaries and apply appropriate work ethics at all times.
