Development Assistant

The Development Assistant is responsible for administrative oversight of Food Bank of Alaska’s donor database (DonorPerfect) and ensures accurate record keeping of financial and food donations, acknowledgement, and reporting.

Essential Job Duties

Enter new donors and gifts into the donor database with a high degree of accuracy following Food Bank of Alaska procedures and produce reports as needed for recognition, appeals and planning. Prepare regular reports on the progress and success of fundraising activities. Create and run donation reports and mailing lists that support fundraising, communication and finance operations. Generate weekly thank you letters and receipts to ensure timely acknowledgement of donations. Follow up with donors as needed to access matching gifts and keep donor information current. Accept phone and in-person donations and respond to donor complaints and questions. Provide support for donor communication efforts as assigned. Provide the highest level of customer service to all donors. Adhere to the Code of Ethics of the Association of Fundraising Professionals and to AFP and Food Bank of Alaska confidentiality standards. Work closely with all FBA Staff to promote a culture of philanthropy.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree preferred

Minimum Associate degree or 2+ years’ experience working in the nonprofit sector

Experience and ability in providing excellent customer service.

Working knowledge of donor and relationship management software and/or inventory control software. Curiosity and willingness to learn about using quality donation information to support Food Bank of Alaska’s mission.

Strong skills in MS Word and Excel and experience with mail merging.

Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.

Understanding of fundraising principles and ability to represent Food Bank of Alaska in a professional manner.

Compliance with ethical practices and donor confidentiality as defined by the Association of Fundraising Professionals.

Detail-oriented, with strong accuracy, organizational, analytical, and planning skills.

Excellent organizational skills with ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and a variety of demands.

Strong self-motivation as well as the ability to work as a team member.

Commitment to FBA’s mission to end hunger in Alaska.

Ability to successfully pass a criminal background check.

This is a full-time position which reports to the Chief of Philanthropy & Community Relations. The hourly rate for this position is $18.50- $22.00 per hour DOE. Send resume and cover letter to jobs@foodbankofalaska.org.
