Food Buyer
Purchase food and sundries for remote camps.
Reports To
The Food Buyer will report to the Expediting Manager.
Job Overview
The Food Buyer will be responsible for ordering, purchasing and packing of food and sundries to ship to remote camps. The Food Buyer will know the best place for sourcing (Costco, Fred Meyer, Quality Sales, etc.) and will establish relationships with those vendors to ensure quality and timeliness.
Responsibilities and Duties
Coordinate with camp cooks to receive orders; understand each order completely, asking for clarification when needed prior to placing order with vendors.
Submit email or phone orders to vendors from lists provided by the camp cooks.
Shop in-store for items when needed.
Ensure orders are complete and of high quality.
Box food/sundries accordingly chill, freeze, dry and in a manner that they arrive at each camp in good condition.
Cross-over to general expediting duties when not working with food orders.
Qualifications
Culinary experience preferably with purchasing and/or receiving food deliveries.
Computer literate must be comfortable with email, Google Docs, and MS Office.
Must have own smart phone.
Detail oriented.
Personable be able to represent The Company in a positive light at all times.
Communicate effectively with customers and vendors.
Must have valid drivers license, clean driving record, and be able to pass DOT physical.
Individual must have a sense of urgency, able to handle pressure, and make sound judgments.
Be able to bend, squat, and lift 50 lbs unassisted.
Clean criminal background.
Adhere to Companys Health & Safety and Drug & Alcohol policy.
Additional Helpful Experience
Experience with fork lift and palletizing freight.
Familiar with bush planes and shipping or receiving freight in remote villages or camps.
Previous work or life in remote village or camps.
Knowledge of Fairbanks roads.
Remember and be able to belt out at any time commercial jingles or theme songs from long forgotten TV shows. Bonus if you can make up lyrics on the spot.

Wage dependent on experience.
