Interior Community Health Center is looking for a Dental Assistant to join their team!

Under the general direction and supervision of the Dental Program Coordinator, this person prepares patient for dental examination and assists in providing patient care, within scope of practice.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education

High school diploma or the equivalent.

Experience

Graduation from a school in dental assisting preferred; one-year experience as a dental assistant preferred. Current certification in BLS Cultural competence in working with diverse populations required.

Essential Functions:

1. Report to work as scheduled, on time and prepared to start working. Remain at work for their entire work schedule.

2. Performs initial clinical interview and processing of patients that include:

a. Takes description of chief complaint or reason for visit

b. Reviews patient medical history and make any appropriate changes

3. Assesses for and identifies abnormal patient condition and immediately reports them to the clinician.

4. Assists chair side independently and provides dental care to patients across the lifespan.

5. Accurately and consistently understands and communicates dental terminology while relaying information to co-workers, patients and health records.

6. Demonstrates skill in computer operations and dental software.

7. Keeps accurate records of dental office inventory and orders supplies as necessary.

8. Performs operatory set-up and clean-up and dental instrument sterilization as outlined by infection control guidelines provided by OSHA.

9. Maintains dental equipment such as hand pieces, operatories and evacuation units, radiographic equipment and sterilization units according to protocol and manufacturer’s guidelines.

10. Backs up dental check-out and/or dental scheduling as needed and may occur on a daily basis.

11. Operates and maintains center’s dental equipment according to manufacture instructions and clinic protocols.

12. Integrates work with other staff to ensure timely and accurate patient flow.

13. Participates in continuous quality improvement activities.

14. Complies with center’s policies and procedures.

15. Utilizes specialized office and dental equipment according to procedure.

16. Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Proficient computer skills.

Knowledge of common dental equipment.

Knowledge of common office equipment (copier, fax, printer, etc.).

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Ability to organize and prioritize tasks.

Ability to work under pressure.

Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.

Ability to work independently and as a team member.
