The Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys (DGGS) is seeking an advanced level systems administrator to manage and develop the division's complex Unix-based computer network. With nearly 1 PB of stored geologic data and 2 million geologic reports and datasets downloaded from the DGGS website in 2018, the survey is in need of a savvy individual to oversee more than two dozen Unix-based virtual and physical servers and associated components, configure and maintain division-wide applications, manage daily backups of servers and the division's personal computers, and provide operational and hardware/software cost and planning guidance to division management. The successful applicant will manage and lead the development of all of the server and IT infrastructure for the division, including the Geologic Materials Center in Anchorage, and work under the direction of the Deputy Director. This is a permanent position in Fairbanks, Alaska with opportunities for travel to Anchorage and the Contiguous 48 states.
