Telecommunications

A communications worker works with and installs communications equipment in the fields of line construction (outside plant), splicing (construction and maintenance), installation and repair (residential and commercial), central office and customer owned premise equipment. The work is often in confined spaces and highly technical. It will also involve working outside in adverse conditions or handling heavy conductors and equipment. Regardless of the field of communications you choose to specialize in, all telephone workers and apprentices must learn to climb poles and work at heights.

Our educational program is an extensive multi-faceted program in both the classroom and on the job in order to prepare our graduates for all of the complexities they will face in their careers. School is tuition free and consists of four sessions that occur for seven to eight weeks approximately once every year. Classes are held eight hours a day, five days a week, at the Electrical Training Centers in Anchorage and Fairbanks. A total of 1,120 hours of class-related training as well 8,000 hours of on-the-job training is required to complete the apprenticeship. You will earn an hourly wage and defined benefits while working on-the-job.

AJEATT Apprentices may be required to report for on-the-job training assignments anywhere within our employment jurisdiction.
