PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Assist in the overall coordination of daily safety activities and programs to maintain a safe and healthy work environment.

TYPICAL DUTIES:

Maintain OSHA required project information

Assist in developing weekly safety meetings

Jobsite inspections.

o Request and review crew Job Hazard Analysis, observations, inspections, and near misses

o Follow up on documented inspections and help make needed corrections.

o Maintain inspection log.

o Work with Superintendents to verify inspection corrections.

Assist Safety Manager with required training

Jobsite investigations.

o Injuries, OSHA investigations, Property Damage.

Participate in owner safety meetings.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING

Bachelor's degree in Safety or Industrial Hygiene preferred

Minimum 3 years experience in heavy highway and civil construction required; pipe and trench excavation experience preferred

Certified Safety Professional (CHST) Standing preferred

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE EDUCATION & SKILLS REQUIRED:

Ability to work independently with little supervision

Must be computer literate with proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint

Working knowledge of safe work practices and safety regulations

Ability to perform math calculations at or above algebra level

Ability to conduct meetings and/or speak in front of other people

Ability to read and understand technical documents such as OSHA/MSHA standards

Ability and desire to train and/or instruct others in safety procedures

Excellent organization skills and ability to meet short time lines

Self-starter, self-motivator, with a sincere interest in the safety of others

Ability to relate to other employees, client, or agency personnel in a diplomatic fashion about sensitive issues

Ability to maintain confidentiality

Ability to provide good customer service to internal and external customers

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Talk and hear

Use hands and fingers

Stand, walk, and reach with arms and hands

Climb, balance, stoop, kneel and crouch

See well (either naturally or with correction)

Must be able to drive Company vehicle

Ability to walk on uneven surfaces

Job site inspections
