Meat Department Manager

Duties/Responsibilities:

The Meat Manager’s primary duty is to prepare and deliver the highest quality fresh meats to our customers. They must deliver excellent customer service, while adhering to all federal and state regulations and company policies.

Responsibilities include:

• Receiving and breaking down meat loads, checking for proper quality and quantity.

• Cuts, grinds, weighs and wraps fresh meat product according to proper procedures to ensure quality and safety.

• Responsible for achieving labor, sales, and gross profit goals

• Controls shrink and expense. Prevents the sale of out-dated or spoiled product.

• Accurately completes and monitors daily log sheets and other required paperwork and reporting logs.

• Maintains proper rotation and organization in meat cooler and meat product in freezer.

• Ensures proper merchandising of product by understanding and implementing schematics, merchandising of advertised items, proper signing procedures and monitoring product flow.

• Assists customers by locating products and filling special orders. Makes product suggestions and engages in suggestive selling.

• Complies with all federal, state, and local health, food handling, and safety regulations and standards.

• Fulfills other necessary and required duties as directed by Meat Dept. Manager.

Qualifications:

• Ability to be friendly, courteous, tactful and composed when dealing with customers and team members.

• Requires a working knowledge of all job duties within the Meat Department, including cutting, wrapping, smoking, grinding, cubing, tenderizing and others.

• Ability to communicate orally and read and follow written work assignments.

• Must have knowledge of product variety, standards, perishability, food safety, sanitation, labeling, and department policies and procedures.

• Ability to lift, stack, and maneuver objects of varying dimensions and weights of up to 80 pounds.

• Must have a working knowledge of the safe and proper operation of all equipment in the meat department, including saws, cutters, grinders, wrappers, scales, and other equipment. Must be willing to maintain, clean and sanitize all equipment.

• Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including days, evenings, weekends and holidays.
