ISP Field Technician (Full-Time)
Reports to: Field Supervisor / COO / CAO
Position summary: The primary role of the Field Technician is to complete installations/surveys, routine maintenance and provide easy to advanced-level troubleshooting response and trouble resolution of network equipment. This is a hands-on position with direct daily customer interaction.
Essential Responsibilities and Accountabilities (not limited to):
- Conduct site evaluations (surveys) to determine potential customer eligibility
- Conduct customer installations and maintenance visits
- Attention to detail when documenting customer contact, network and billing information and ensuring all appropriate installation paperwork is completed at the end of each install/maintenance visit
- Provide customer technical support, verbally, electronically or over the phone in a professional and timely manner
- Provide basic support, troubleshooting and maintenance of the Borealis network
- Resolve routine inquiries, escalate complex issues to a higher tier of support
- Work under moderate supervision preforming general tasks, completing routine assignments in a timely manner
- Prompt response to management and supervisory communication (text/call/email) – possible network emergencies and issues require this
- Keep installation vehicles organized, clean and prepared for field duties
- Conduct monthly tower site visits, maintenance and network equipment continuity check
- Follow established Borealis procedures, policies, practices and principles
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Requirements:
- High school diploma or G.E.D required
- Must have valid driver’s license and clean driving record
- Technical knowledge of computer skills; email, Microsoft Office, etc.
- Must complete technician training and show competency of required Field Technician skills within 90-day probationary period – items include connector/port wiring, cable selection, basic network understanding, installation hardware and supplies requirements, basic equipment configuration steps, etc.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks/issues simultaneously
- Ability to exercise flexibility and resourcefulness (with assistance from others) in challenging or perplexing, possibly high-pressure/demanding situations – “think on your feet” attitude
- Great time management and the ability to receive directions on an as needed basis
- Positive outlook, go-to attitude, excellent customer service skills – written and verbal
- Must conduct oneself in a professional and presentable manner, including proper (clean) work attire, driving behavior and customer interactions (use of appropriate language and demeanor)
- Must learn general knowledge of Borealis products and service offerings, and be eagerly willing to present the info in appropriate sales opportunities and settings
- Must be willing to routinely drive to various job sites within Anchorage and Eagle River
- Must be flexible to work overtime/weekends/holidays as needed (per After- Hours and On-Call Policy)
- Must be willing to do remote village travel as needed
- Ability to work outside and withstand varied inclement weather conditions
- Ability to bend, squat, lift, twist, sit for extending periods of time
- Ability to reach, climb, carry and or grasp ladders and other tall structures – not limited to but including climbing on roofs during the winter
- Must have basic knowledge of power/hand tools and be comfortable using them
- Must adhere to industry regulations, standards and OSHA codes, and maintain a safe work environment by following those codes, standards, legal regulations, and general common-sense safety behaviors
- Must love dogs! We have a couple of big friendly office pups who enjoy scritches and treats :-)
