GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY:

The Skills Training Specialist/Respite Provider is responsible for supporting youth in community settings, focused on reducing stress, meeting their social, emotional needs and assisting these youth in developing skill sets identified by the Child and Family Team. In addition, position will assist youth in introducing them to community resources, while providing training and support, and transportation based on contracted service. Working evenings and weekends is required, to support the youth when they are available.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Maintains contact with youth, collateral persons and agencies to assist youth to develop and maintain life skills and accomplish goals established, as per contracted services.

Develops and reviews goals and service plans.

May provide transportation for youth to group meetings, education outings and recreational activities, and to employment settings.

Conducts group training and educational meetings.

Plans and coordinates skills based activities.

Provides individual support and services focusing on life skills development, including tutoring, transportation, individual education, and activities utilizing positive behavior intervention strategies.

Develops training and skills development options for STAR program youth.

Completes progress notes on day of skills training/respite session.

Participates in team meetings on youth and program issues with supervisor and other staff and agencies.

Must be able to safely and effectively monitor consumer activities, with or without a reasonable accommodation.

Performs other duties as assigned which are consistent with the general responsibilities of the position.

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES:

- Ability to assess skills base and pursue enhancement of skills as designated by CFT.

- Knowledge of community resources.

- Ability to effectively conduct individual and group meetings as well as possible trainings with positive educational base.

- Capable of growth and acquiring new skills.

- Effective written, oral and interpersonal communication skills.

- Must be able to work in a diverse, multi-cultural environment and be sensitive to the service populations cultural and socioeconomic characteristics.

- Must have ability to exhibit mature judgment and emotional stability.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Must be 21 years of age (licensing requirement).

Associates Degree in Social Services preferred. High School diploma or equivalent required.

Minimum one-year experience working with youth in education, social services or behavioral health required.

Possess a valid Arizona drivers license and be insurable under the agencys automobile policy.

Able to operate common office equipment and have word processing computer skills.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to provide DPS fingerprint clearance.

Must be able to meet training and agency compliance requirements for the position.

Must be able to use personal vehicle for client transport.

Must be willing to work evenings and weekends.

Mental Requirements

Ability to effectively communicate in the English language.

Ability to communicate, comprehend and perform functions from written and oral instructions.

Ability to interact well with various levels of staff and with guests of AzCA.

Physical Requirements

Indoor/outdoor working conditions with frequent activity.

Must be able to climb stairs, with frequent standing and moving throughout facility or in the alternative, perform these physical requirements with or without reasonable accommodations.

Frequent physical effort (lift/carry up to 35 lbs.).

Frequent reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling or crouching.

Must be able to physically demonstrate competency in the following areas: operate an agency transport vehicle
