Responsible for the extraction and analysis of health care information regarding network utilization and cost containment and clinical quality information. Evaluates, writes, and presents healthcare utilization and cost containment reports and makes recommendations based on relevant findings to drive the decision-making process and support business operations for internal and external customers in an effort to control medical cost and improve the quality of services provided to members. Performs research and analysis of complex healthcare and/or clinical data regarding network utilization, cost containment and quality improvement information. Responsible for research using multiple sources of data and analyzing algorithms to determine health care expenditures and utilization patterns. Combines complex IT capabilities with advanced clinical knowledge to determine trends, cost/benefit ratios, and forecasting of health care costs, medical management, and health economics. May also be responsible for designing and implementing the systems and programming to analyze and report findings. This position requires a high level of expertise in both analyzing medical data and information systems. May provide guidance or expertise to less experienced analysts. Typically requires Bachelors in Statistics, Mathematics, Epidemiology or equivalent training and mastery; minimum 4 years’ experience in related health care analytics; or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background.This position will be required to have expertise in several different technologies used by the Cigna Medical Group analytics team. These include multiple database technologies such as Epic Cogito, IBM DB2, MS SQL, Teradata and Access. In addition, several other tools such as Tableau, Cognos, SAP Crystal Reports, and SSIS will be used to help drive analysis and reporting. These technologies will be used to develop complex data processes for operational reporting and in depth analysis for specific projects such as evaluating the success of clinical programs.Detailed Responsibilities:

Manage reporting functionality on BI applications – across Epic Electronic Health Record and other systems

Design and develop data analysis processes

Work directly with clinical staff in intake resolution

Perform analysis of clinical programs

Analysis of medical costs for potential capitated contracts with specialist organizations

Support strategic initiatives for Cigna Medical Group.

Successfully complete project deliverables associated with all aspects of life cycle methodology including design, build, test, train and implementation.

Interact closely with customers to understand their needs and expectations.

Proactively monitor, identify, and help our IT partners resolve system production issues.

Develop and maintain user/technical documentation of responsible system areas.

Provide status reports, verbal and written.

Participate in regular customer or project meetings.

Take initiative to identify process improvements and implement them when needed.

Support and assist in the successful completion of team goals.

Perform other tasks as assigned

Experience/Knowledge:

Experience working with Epic Electronic Health Record system

Two or more non-expired Epic Clarity data models or Cogito Certifications required

7+ years’ experience with SQL

Proficiency with Microsoft software applications (Excel, Access, Visio) and Windows operating system environment.

Experience with Visual Basic for Applications is preferred

SQL query tuning experience preferred

Tableau experience preferred.

Crystal Reports experience

Experience interpreting and defining business requirements for complex business problems.

Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and take initiative with limited direction.

Demonstrated ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously.

Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in Biostatistics, Statistics, Mathematics, Business or health care related field.
