Job Description:REMOTE -BASED POSITION WITH 60-80% TRAVEL (US and OUS)This is a unique and challenging opportunity to join the Surgical Structural Heart business unit supporting various global Medical Affairs activities. This is a fast-paced, dynamic team working on innovative medical devices.The Medical Science Liaison (MSL)’s main role is to build partnerships with external healthcare professionals and Key Opinion Leaders (KOL) to communicate evidence based scientific and technical information relating to Edwards’ Surgical Heart Valve Therapy portfolio. The position will work closely with medical and commercial teams to develop a Medical Sciences Plan including KOL engagement and using a scientific approach that is aligned with the commercial strategy and therapeutic areas objectives.Key Responsibilities:Act as a subject matter expert and establish scientific and clinical relationships with thought leaders and academic centers to engage in scientific exchange and maintain a reliable presence with those scientific leaders
Uses strong knowledge of relevant diseases and disease management protocols, healthcare environment and competitors to articulate the medical and scientific value of our products with external experts
Gathers data and generates insights from HCP interactions and provides feedback to the organization
Serve as the primary resource to provide support for addressing unsolicited medical questions and other scientific exchange matters
Provide balanced medical information for HCPs and address questions about safety and off label use of company products based on available scientific data
Serves as a scientific resource at key medical and scientific conferences, advisory boards, clinical investigator meeting, and patient advocacy group meetings as appropriate
Distribute relevant scientific and medical information and key external insights to internal stakeholders when requested
Collaborate, as directed, with Commercial Operations, Business Development, Regulatory, etc. to facilitate medical and safety evaluation, product positioning, lifecycle evidence planning, and compliance needs
Responds to unsolicited requests regarding interest in Investigator-Sponsored studies (ISS), and supports ISS submissions through appropriate internal processes
Helps organize educational meetings or local scientific advisory boards when requested
Provides quarterly metrics around key activities.
Minimum Requirements:Bachelor’s Degree with 12 years’ experience in a scientific or related discipline and relevant medical/scientific affairs experience within the medical device, pharmaceutical, or biotechnology industries.
Preferred Qualifications:Master's Degree with 11 years’ experience in a scientific or related discipline and relevant medical/scientific affairs experience within the medical device, pharmaceutical, or biotechnology industries.
PHD with 8 years’ experience in a scientific or related discipline and relevant medical/scientific affairs experience within the medical device, pharmaceutical, or biotechnology industries.
Relevant experience specifically in the cardiovascular medical device industry
Terminal degree (PhD, MD, PharmD, DO)
Additional Talents and General Expectations:Ability to quickly understand and translate complex scientific data and realize the potential impact of that data on clinical practice and potential research needs
Ability to network and partner with important customers, including thought leaders, large group practices, and medical directors
Must be a strong team player and effectively interface with other internal departments, including Corporate Customers, Regional Business Units, Marketing, Sales, New Product Commercialization, Medical Affairs, Research, and Business Analysis
Excellent influencing, networking, presentation and communication skills
External customer focus with strong networking capabilities and integration with KOLs
A keen scientific and clinical acumen, for use in various circumstances, including in working with internal stakeholders and with physicians in identifying evidence gaps and opportunities
Proven successful organizational and project management skills including presentation
Working knowledge of ACCME, AdvaMed, EUcomed, FDA and ISO regulations
Must be able to work effectively across multiple areas with cross-functional team, marketing peers and leaders and managing needs and messaging to upper management
Must be science oriented and be able to prioritize and work effectively in a constantly changing environment
