Manufacturer in Chandler looking for experienced fabrication technician to work in our Engineering/R&D department.

The Fabrication Technician is responsible for the design and/or fabrication of new conceptual products for off road vehicles as well and weld fixtures used in manufacturing of tube and plate products (medium volume production environment). The assignment includes fabrication of prototype products, engineering samples and Engineering Pilot parts (prove out the fixture design). Design for manufacturability and consistent tolerances are important factors in this role. This position requires accurate documentation in testing/validation of product designs, manufacturing notes and procedures for each product.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Fixture Design and Fabrication Technician job duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Interpret product design details to develop and fabricate a working prototype sample.

• Develop templates and/or sketches for reverse engineering components for new products.

• Provide translation of vehicle features and dimensions to product engineers.

• Design and manufacture fixtures (weld, cut, bend, cope, check) for manufactured products.

• Documentation of manufacturing instructions and procedures for each manufacturing process.

• Conduct engineering pilot runs to prove and test new fixture applications.

• Support transfer of fixtures and documentation to Manufacturing; support production pilot build.

• Investigate integrity, and modify existing fixtures, as required.

• Measure and verify dimensions to design intent for First Article Samples; conduct vehicle test fit.

Requirements:

• Minimum 4 years fabrication experience in a fabrication shop and/or manufacturing production environment.

• Tube bending, notching and sheet stock experience.

• Minimum 1 year in an Engineering or development team environment.

• Understanding of materials and manufacturability.

• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings (dimensions, tolerances, specifications). Knowledge of GD&T is desired.

• Proficient in MIG and TIG welding.

• Associate Technical degree.

• Basic computer skills and software (Word, Excel) experience. CAD (SolidWorks or equivalent parametric software) experience is a plus

• Good communication skills, both verbal and written.

• Attention to detail in all aspects of work.

• Strong work ethic; able to set and meet goals and be timely in your work habits. Able to work with minimum direction.

• Ability to take a proactive approach to overcome challenges and achieve results.

• Able to follow quality practices and procedures.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to reach over shoulder, head and outward.

• Ability to stand for periods of time.

• Ability to kneel and/or squat.

• Walk - in production shop environment.

• Use hands/fingers to handle, feel, type - constantly operate equipment and machinery.

• Talk/Hear - constant communication with employees and supervisors

• Carry weight, lift - able to frequently move or lift items up to 50 lbs.

• Exposure to moderate noise level during the work day.
