Processor and Sorter positions work within the laboratory environment (lab coat & gloves are required).

Specimen Processor Job Description:

Processors will enter each patient’s information for Covid-19 testing into the computer, and will briefly touch the Covid-19 specimen containers to verify each patient’s name. The specimens are frozen samples, so the hire needs to be comfortable with working around dry ice. There is a typing requirement of at least 25 words per minute (data entry).

Sorter Job Description:

Sorts specimens based on specimen type and places them in appropriate bins for distribution. The hire needs to be comfortable with standing for long periods of time, and running around in a fast paced work environment.

Job Summary:

The primary role of the Specimen Processor is to receive, accession, handle incoming specimens and assist client services with problem resolution. Must be able to use a computer, process paperwork and store specimens according to lab policy. The Specimen processor verifies accurate patient demographic data, testing requests, and insurance information from each facility.

Essential Duties:

Specimen processors receive specimens, enter specimen data into the laboratory information system (LIS), prepare specimens for laboratory analysis, and stores specimens per laboratory policy.

Performs registrations and order entry in the LIS.

Receive laboratory specimens and check against the requisition for accuracy. Ensure that the labels on the specimens coincide with the information provided on the requisition.

Check specimens for acceptance or rejection criteria according to policy.

Label and track prepared specimens in accordance to lab policy.

Ensure that each process of specimen preparation is documented in accordance to the lab’s policy.

Handle hazardous waste management activities in accordance to policies, protocols, and regulatory standards.

Ensure proper storage of specimens in the appropriate storage areas.

Document and report any issues that may have arisen during the intake or preparation process.

Communicate appropriately with supervisor and staff to inform of any rejections or problems encountered during specimen processing.

Assist Client Service with problem resolution according to lab policy.

Must have good computer skills and strong work ethic. This position is very fast paced and requires people to work primarily on their feet. Attendance, reliability, attitude and work ethic are key for this role.

5 - 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM - Mon-Fri - $14.00/hr

5 - 5:00 PM - 1:30 AM - Mon-Fri - $16.10/hr

5 - 11:00 PM - 7:30 AM - Mon-Fri - $16.10/hr

PLEASE NOTE: Before you start on your official shift, you will need to go through 1 week of processing training from 10:00am – 6:30pm
