This is responsible work in the field of behavioral health and is to assist in the identification, planning, implementation, supervision, and monitoring of a consumer-run recovery center for persons living with mental illness and/or substance abuse: must have a working knowledge of available community resources and knowledge of the problems of mental illness and substance abuse.

It is good to have an understanding of how the services provided impacts recovery and assists a peer member to advance in the self-management of their recovery.

Success in the role is measured on the Wellness Center Manager’s ability to:

Provide quality services without judgment or personal agenda.

Model recovery and set appropriate boundaries.

Identify a peer’s unique strengths and pathway to recovery.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

Teach and role model the value of every individual’s recovery experience.

Assist peers in articulating personal goals for recovery through the use of one-to-one and group sessions. During these sessions the PSS will support peers in identifying and creating goals and developing wellness plans with the skills, strengths, supports and resources to aid them in achieving those goals.

Use ongoing individual and group sessions to teach and guide peers to identify and combat negative self-talk and identify and overcome fears and triggers by providing a forum which allows group members and Peer Navigators to share their experiences.

Assist peers in setting up and sustaining self-help (mutual support) groups, as well as means of locating and joining existing groups in Wellness Center.

Assist peers in working with their case manager or treatment team in determining the steps he/she needs to take, in order to achieve these goals and self-directed recovery.

Minimum Qualifications / Experience:

Pass a background and a drug test.

A valid Arizona driver’s license, plus a 60 month MVR.

If in recovery, must be stable for over one year.

One Year experience as a Peer Support Specialist and/or proven team lead is a plus.

Experience in supervision and /or completed supervision training.

Education / Certifications:

GED or HS Diploma

TB free

CPR/1st Aid a plus.

Current Peer Support Specialist Certification is a plus.
