Title: Director, Platform Engineering

Location: Scottsdale, AZ (hybrid schedule, onsite 2-3 day/week)

As a Manager of Platform Engineering, you are a product-minded, customer-focused leader who can help take ideas from idea to implementation. You propose is to implement various core components of the platform in collaboration with product and development teams. As a member of the team, you will provide the technical expertise needed to overcome hard problems. By now, you would have built and supported critical components of products/platforms at scale. You will work in a highly collaborative, fast-paced environment that crosses multiple technology domains, business teams, and offices.


Your role:


  • Define cloud solution architecture to include evaluation, selection, and integration of critical technical components that realize the defined functional, non-functional, and security requirements. Very strong emphasis on effective communication, ability to socialize, and develop consensus.
  • Apply a proven understanding of application development to craft new cloud applications and clearly communicate to developers. Lead application transformation to PaaS and serverless. Use knowledge of microservice and cloud native designs to specify modern applications for development.
  • Synthesize functional as well as nonfunctional requirements, security requirements, data classifications, and evaluate implementation feasibility.
  • Facilitate the design, build, test, and deployment of cloud and on-premises infrastructure that is secure, scalable, and highly available in any cloud or virtual environment; predominately Azure, AWS, and VMWare.
  • Ensure the standardization, design, implementation, and improvements of CI/CD pipelines for both production and lower-level environments.
  • Collaborate with the InfoSec team to ensure implementation of security best practices across the infrastructure.
  • Be hyper-focused on optimization, cost analysis, and risk management.
  • Facilitate automation deployments to reduce toil and improve efficiencies across systems and data centers.
  • Build and maintain operational tools for deployment, monitoring, and analysis of Azure/AWS infrastructure and systems.
  • Document and maintain architecture diagrams for systems, processes, and interfaces.
  • Continuously evaluate platforms against emerging technology trends or business growth areas and target areas of opportunity to ensure performance and capacity exceed demand.
  • Ensure technology solutions are designed, developed, and implemented to meet business needs.
  • Ensure technologies and processes are simple, standard, and integrated.


What you’ve got:


  • 8 years of consistent record developing/deploying IT systems and applications in an enterprise environment.
  • Minimum of 5 years or more of leading enterprise engineering teams.
  • Minimum of 5 years or more of engineering experience in Azure Cloud platform.
  • Complete understanding of the declarative capabilities of cloud (AWS and/or Azure) infrastructure and the ability to solution based on these capabilities.
  • Ability to comprehend established IT standards, demonstrate cloud technology stack to define architecture and acquire design approvals through delivery phases. Address operational challenges to keep cloud platform secure and current.
  • Extensive experience working with automated configuration, building CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure deployment management tools such as Terraform, Puppet, Chef, Salt, Ansible, etc.
  • Extensive experience with complex data migration solutions including which tools to use.
  • Extensive experience in designing and implementing modernized architectures and automation using cloud infrastructure technologies with focus on containers.
  • Extensive experience in application containerization, web applications, APIs or web services, and databases.
  • Experience in troubleshooting very complex distributed environments, including following stack traces back to code to determine root cause analysis.
  • Understanding of protocols/technologies like HTTP, SSL, LDAP, JDBC, Servlet/JSP, SQL, HTML, XML, JSON, Application clustering / load balancing concepts and technologies.
  • Experience coding in higher-level languages like PHP, Python, .NET, or Java.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with demonstrated presentation skills.
  • Microsoft Azure-related Certifications.
