We are a group of families in the Sam Hughes neighborhood looking to hire a private educator for our six to eight kids (ages 5-8). The ideal candidate would be an experienced elementary school teacher who would enjoy taking on our group of inquisitive learners while we all ride out the coronavirus pandemic.
The teacherwould teach the kids for about 15 hours per week, providing them with the benefits of in-person instruction and socialization while maintaining a safe environment for all. The older children have tested into TUSD's Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) program.
Most of the parents are professors at U of A or in other professions where they can work from home. All families are social distancing and are looking for a candidate who is doing the same. Our thought was that the teaching would take place outdoors on a covered patio in the mornings. Everyone would wear masks and use hand sanitizer. However, the details of what would create a safe and fruitful learning environment areopen to discussion with the teacher.
