Duties & Responsibilities

The candidate will analyze metagenomic andamplicon microbial sequence data from a stable isotope probing experiment,integrate that with tracer-labeled metabolomic and gas flux data and summarizethe analysis for publication.

The science goals of this project are todiscover how microbial community composition and carbon-cycling metabolismrespond to changing plant litter inputs along a gradient of climate changeinduced permafrost thaw.

This one-year position is based at UniversityArizona, but will be co-advised by the Project PI at Ohio State University.

This is an interdisciplinary research program, and as such the position will beco-advised by mentors in metabolomic science, ecosystem science, and microbialecology.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must have received a PhD within the past five years (60months) or within the next few months from an accredited college or university.

A demonstrable strong technical background in the relevant technical methods and strongscience background in arctic ecology and biogeochemistry is required.

Experience in using molecular (metagenomic) tools and stable isotope biogeochemical tracers to investigate microbial and associated carbon gas (CO2 and CH4) dynamics in arctic wetlands being transformed by global climate change.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working with environmental samples. The ideal candidate will have experience in laboratory techniques and field sampling.

Experience in handling and analyzing diverse types of datasets (including high-dimensional omics data) using contemporary scripting languages such as R, MATLAB, and / or Python.

Experience demonstrating strong written and oral communication skills in their work, and experience displaying significant motivation to publish in the peer reviewed literature.

Experience working in team-based interdisciplinary science, and experience in work independently when required.
