POSITION DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Operator

Reports To: Foreman

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The purpose of this position is to operate construction equipment in a safe and efficient manner. The work requires skill in manipulating equipment and constant attention to safety of operation in order to prevent accidents. Responsible for the equipment used in their day to day operations. This position may operate a variety of hand and power tools.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:(Based upon level of position, not all functions may apply)

o Perform job tasks in a safe manner in accordance with company policy

o Must be able to safely operate and control assigned equipment on underground construction crew

o Must be able to get on and off equipment

o Responsible for the use of safety equipment i.e. dust mask, goggles, hard hats, etc.

o Ability to lift and carry heavy objects (example: equipment's parts, water cans, etc.)

o Maintains equipment in proper operating condition by performing simple preventative maintenance and completing daily and / or weekly equipment inspection checklists, and

o Other duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:(Based upon level of position, not all may apply)

o High School Diploma or GED preferred

o Must be reliable and able to work in a team environment

o Excellent reading skills to understand and comprehend all construction warning signs

o Retain a valid driver’s license

o Required to pass a pre-employment drug test and subsequent random drug tests, and

o Great attention and commitment to safety culture and company values.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The position lifts heavy objects, walks and stands for long periods of time and perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions. Will be lifting, pushing, pulling or carries heavy objects; using abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support. Must have good manual dexterity, hand-eye coordination and balance. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. Working hours are typically 5 days per week and 8 hours per day but from time to time may require 6 days per week and / or extended hours.
