SummaryThe Adult Protective Services (APS) Worker is responsible for investigating reports of adult maltreatment involving adults 18 and older in accordance with ACA 12-12-1701 et. seq. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.Typical FunctionsInvestigates complaints called into the Adult Maltreatment Hotline by conducting in-depthinterviews with victim, alleged perpetrator, family members, neighbors, medical personnel, social workers, clergy, emergency medical workers, law enforcement and others regarding reported allegations. Completes research to confirm victim eligibility for public programs and other assistance. Identifies, recommends, negotiates, refers, and secures least restrictive living arrangement for victim. Determines need for protective custody, removes victim from danger, secures home,prepares court affidavit, secures financial information, and testifies at court hearings. Acts as custodian for adult wards of the state, advocates to ensure client rights, preparescourt reports, and testifies at annual review hearingsCompletes comprehensive documentation of investigation results and other case management activities, enters information into APS database, and completes investigations. Assures continuous access to APS by providing on call coverage. Performs other duties as assigned.Special Job DimensionsWork after normal hours may be required to staff Adult Maltreatment Hotline.Knowledge, Abilities, and SkillsKnowledge of the principles and practices of counseling, social work, and casemanagement. Knowledge of state and federal laws, rules, guidelines, and agency policies and programsgoverning adult protective services. Ability to perform case and situational analysis and develop plans for remedial action. Ability to recognize, understand, and facilitate opportunities to connect necessary resourcesto obtain positive/safe outcomes effectively. Ability to successfully interact with diverse individuals and community and legal resourcesto create partnerships and networks. Ability to prepare, present, and review oral and written confidential information and reports.Minimum Education and/or ExperienceThe formal education equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in social work, sociology,psychology or a related field; plus one year of experience in a social service programincluding interviewing, researching and investigating issues or a related field. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. This is an Extra Help position. The starting salary for this position is $36,155 annually. This position is located in Little Rock, AR.In-state Travel Required.
