Conducts all related duties as a professional member of the health care team. Perform specimen receiving, processing, and distribution. Perform computer functions to process specimens and generate reports. Reports directly to the Phlebotomist Supervisor.Uses and Discloses patient protected health information: 1) Only as it applies to job functions, 2) in amounts minimally necessary for intended purpose, 3) in a confidential manner.ESSENTIAL KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Cordial to patients, families of patients, and other members of the health care team.

Follows laboratory procedures related to phlebotomy and specimen processing.

Organizes and prioritizes workload to meet the quality standards of the laboratory.

Assesses the special needs of patients.

Performs venipuncture, capillary draws, or special collection procedures.

Determines specimen requirements for testing that has been requested.

Performs computer functions related to specimen collection.

Communicates information about testing ordered and specimens with the technical staff in the laboratory.

Locates laboratory results in the computer as requested.

Receives incoming calls and routes information appropriately.

Maintain inventory and assist in ordering supplies.

Receives and delivers specimens collected by non-laboratory personnel.

Processes specimens to be sent to the reference laboratory.

Maintain work area in a neat and organized manner.

Communicate technical issues to co-workers, Technical Supervisor, and Director of Laboratory Services as appropriate.

Participates in the quality assurance program of the laboratory and the hospital.

Understand the use of the Hospital Information System relating to Phlebotomy Services.

Comply with safety policies.

Understand and comply with the Corporate Responsibility Program.

Maintain confidentiality of patient information.

Participate in and successfully complete annual competency review. (Required every six months for the first year).

Participate in staff meetings and laboratory committees as assigned.

Demonstrate ability to evaluate each situation and handle it with the utmost professionalism, dedication, and concern for the health and welfare of others.

Perform any other duties that may be assigned.
