Position Title: PRODUCTION TECHNICIAN-1Department: VariousLocation: MorriltonSalary Class: HourlyTitle of Supervisor: Farm Manager, Farm Assistant Manager, Production Technican-3Purpose & Scope: This position is responsible for supporting the production of pork on farms owned by JBS Live Pork by utilizing animal science principles to support the objectives of the Breeder Department, Farrowing Department and Gilt Development Department. Roles could include artificial insemination, administering medications and vaccinations, obstetrical assistance, feeding, cleaning, and maintaining veterinary medical records. This role is directly involved with the planning and implementation of our company’s policies and procedures related to animal welfare and pork production.Essential Responsibilities:
Swine husbandry: feeding/watering/moving
Operating machinery and equipment
Assisting with farrowing (birth) and controlling critical neonatal environment.
Handling and administering medications and vaccinations
Vaccinating and medicating sows and piglets.
Cleaning and disinfection of facilities, including removal of mortality and waste.
Maintaining records of animal production and veterinary products.
Detection of Estrus, collection of semen, and artificial insemination.
Animal Identification including administering tattoo’s or ear tags
Attending Safety training
Animal welfare adherence
Animal feeding and feeder management
Euthanasia of animals when needed
Production/facility housekeeping duties such as cleaning animal housing areas and office area
Any other tasks asked by Assistant or Manager
Required Qualifications:
1 year work experience
Be a team oriented, self-motivated and positive individual with strong work ethic
Ability to efficiently multi-task in a fast-paced environment
Ability to learn or already have technology knowledge: hand held devices/wand sows, and other equipment as necessary
Able to work every other weekend
Able to bend, push, grasp, and pull up to 60 lbs
Constant walking – 95% of day
Reliable method of transportation
Ability to work scheduled hours as business needs arise
Able to work early 1st shift hours or late 2nd shift hours
Maintain regular and punctual attendance
Preferred Qualifications:
Familiarity with Bio-Security and swine production
