About the Position: Red River Army Depot (RRAD) is located in northeast Texas. The depot\'s enormous maintenance mission includes the repair, rebuild, overhaul and conversion of tactical wheeled vehicles. Performs visual, auditory, operational and dimensional inspections of complete vehicles including a wide variety of major components/systems such as large engines, transmissions, steering assemblies, electrical systems, power trains, etc. Exercises a substantial degree of inspection judgment when clearly defined inspection guides are not available. Investigates causes of critical or major defects and assures corrective action is taken. Ability to perform common Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic Inspector duties including installing components or replacements on heavy mobile equipment vehicles; reviewing guides such as inspection standards, schematics, and technical manuals to understand the functions of parts or systems; and conducting functional testing of major mechanic systems of heavy mobile equipment vehicles. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Required to push, pull, turn and position parts, assemblies\' equipment, and tools. Lifts and moves heavier items with the assistance of other workers and with lifting devices such as jacks, hoists, and cranes. Working Conditions: Most of the work is done inside where it is drafty and noisy, and fumes from vehicles are usually present. Frequently stands on hard surface for long periods of time. Occasionally works outside, sometimes in bad weather. Must be licensed to operate all types of heavy mobile vehicles. During road tests is subject to road hazards and testing course hazards. Dirt, dust, and grease are frequently present. Vehicle fluids, such as battery acids and hydraulic fluids, may cause burns or irritate the skin. There is frequent exposure to the possibility of cuts, bruises, shocks, burns and strains.
