Job Description

The MSL Operations Director will be the operational lead and program manager to provide full life cycle management from plan, track and implement quality Medical Science Liaison (MSL) projects and oversee all operational aspects of MSL field activities and deliverables. Dashboard and reporting to senior leadership for MSL team metrics, field insights and provides progress updates in timely fashion. The position will report directly to the VP of MSLs.

Qualifications

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for providing operational support for the VP of Medical Science Liaison team direction, guidance, and support to of VP of MSL team’s in an assigned region (6-8 MSL reports)
Oversees programs related to MSL activities across the Exelixis commercial and development portfolio with project management methodologies.
Records Management Lead: Serve as lead for the MSL team in the Exelixis Records and Information Management Program to ensure proper record retention for MSL resources stored in central repository
Develop and Operationalize MSL initiatives, timelines, field direction memos per VP’s guidance
Ensure the successful execution of MSL strategic, operational, and tactical plans
Keep the VP of MSLs informed about key operational field metrics and HCP insights in a timely manner
Oversees field medical affairs (FMA) operations, including websites and CRM software (Veeva, IST electronic portal, BOX). Regularly assesses the operational needs of FMAs and drives the implementation and execution of operational projects, and vendor management.
Effectively collaborates with cross functional team members to provide primary support to the FMA leadership team, while assisting with broader needs of the Medical Affairs organization.
Develop presentations for key strategic insights, MSL initiatives, MSL team goals
Budget forecast and actual vs plan tracking
Initiating and following up on expenses and purchase orders
Operationalize MSL team congress planning and implementation
Partner with IST team to track studies status based on priorities
Supports VP in meeting planning and execution
Continue evaluation of operational needs for MSL team in initiatives and objectives, processing improvements
Works with Compliance and Legal on MSL needs including Sunshine Act reporting, MSL monitoring
Develop SOPs and Work Instructions
Foster teamwork, cross-functional collaboration, and continuity across the entire MSL organization and across the company
Develop and maintain a level of knowledge about pertinent studies, compounds, and diseases that would facilitate collegiate, scientific discussions with leading oncology thought leaders
Consistently demonstrate a high standard of excellence and require the same from reports
Ability to support the achievement of individual, functional, and departmental goals while executing all duties in a compliant manner

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:
Education and experience:
A minimum of 5 years of experience in pharmaceutical industry preferred
A minimum of 5 years in Field Medical Operational supporting therapeutic oncology preferred
BA in biological sciences or related field, or BSN, MSN, Pharm D, MS
Project management certified preferred
Travel 20-30%

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Prior experience as a Sr Program or Sr Project Manager
Strong PowerPoint and Excel capabilities
Ability to take and follow directions, accept guidance, and adjust quickly to changes
Ability to communicate and engage small and large groups in an engaging manner
Ability to efficiently manage time and priorities
Demonstrates matrix leadership
Experience in management of IST or clinical trials
Demonstrates professional collaboration skills
Ability to write and present clearly
Ability to demonstrate leadership while recognizing when input from others is needed
