General Purpose
The basic purpose of the Charge Nurse position is to provide direct nursing care to the residents and to supervise the daily nursing activities performed by nursing personnel enlisted to your charge. Self-confidence, good judgement, and strong decision-making skills are also necessary. Such supervision must be in accordance with current federal, state, local and corporate standards, regulations, and guidelines to ensure that the highest degree of quality care is provided to our residents at all times.
Essential Duties
ï· Assist residents in achieving the highest practicable level of self-care, independence and well-being.
ï· Make rounds and provide report.
ï· Participates in orientation and on-going training of staff.
ï· Chart nurses' notes in an informative and descriptive manner that reflect the care provided to the resident, as well
as the resident's response to the care.
ï· Chart all reports of accidents/incidents involving residents. Follow established procedures.
ï· Respond to and monitor care issues and changes in condition.
ï· Supervise, instruct and assist nursing assistants in provision of care including prompt response to call lights.
ï· Assist physicians and other healthcare providers when making visits and conducting examinations.
ï· Communicate with physicians and other health professionals regarding resident care, treatment and condition.
ï· Admit, discharge and transfer residents according to the facility's policies and procedures.
ï· Coordinate and participate in response to medical emergencies.
ï· Communicate new or updated orders for rehabilitation therapies.
ï· Provide resident care including carrying out physician's orders for care, including providing medication and
treatment.
ï· Report significant findings or changes in condition and potential concerns to Director of Nursing (DON).
ï· Protect the resident's rights, privacy and property.
ï· Direct the day-to-day functions of the nursing assistants in accordance with current rules, regulations, and
guidelines that govern the long-term care facility.
ï· Many residents may be upset or in need of reassurances at times and will benefit from your services the most if
you are patient, caring and compassionate.
ï· Participate in facility surveys (inspections) made by authorized government agencies as requested by
Administrator, Director of Nursing or Assistant Director of Nursing.
ï· Directs daily work, evaluate performance, recruits, recommends promotions and terminations.
Supervisory Requirements
The position has supervisory responsibilities for the overall supervision of and management of the nursing staff.
Qualification
Education and/or Experience
Possession of a Nursing Degree from an accredited college or university. 2 years or more experience preferably in a long-term care facility.
Language Skills
Ability to read technical procedures. Ability to read and comprehend policy and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers and employees.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Maintain a current, unencumbered license as a Licensed Vocational/Practical Nurse. Current CPR certification.
Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office Suite and PCC preferred. Must maintain all required continuing education/licensing.
Must remain in good standing with the State Board of Nursing at all times.

Tasting and /or smelling very frequently. Lifting up to 50 pounds frequently. Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling occasionally. Close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception in vision: ability to adjust focus.
