Boeing Defense, Space, and Security (BDS), Space and Launch Division, is seeking Top Secret Cleared Lead Systems Engineers (Level 4) to support our team. The Space and Launch Systems Team creates the next generation products and services for the BDS business unit. We work with both commercial and proprietary customers in the development of the next-generation technologies in space. Our team focuses on rapid prototyping to demonstrate a host of mission-focused technologies for a variety of customers. Our group works all facets of engineering from technology investment, concept development, proposal writing, requirements and design, build, integration, test, and demonstration of products in their relevant environments.

Position Overview:

The Lead Systems Engineer will be a part of a high-performing team that are immersed in high intensity projects. As a member of our team, you will design, develop, and deliver state-of-the-art communication/payload systems for space-based applications for commercial, civil and/or national security programs. You will work with a highly-motivated team that works with domestic or international customers on their latest satellite systems. You will be a part of a systems engineering team that works with a large cross-functional group including customers, suppliers, hardware and software engineers, integration and test engineers, and senior technologists to ensure that the final products meet the mission objectives. You will perform system analyses and simulations for space communications/payload systems, optimize the system design by performing trade studies, flow down and verify subsystem and unit requirements, develop ConOps, support integration and testing, and/or validate interfaces. Project assignments typically span the complete program life cycle, from internal trades, concept studies and system definition, to satellite development, launch, and on-orbit operations and test.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Applies an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to plan, design, develop and verify complex lifecycle balanced system of systems and system solutions.
  • Evaluates customer/operational needs to define and coordinate system performance requirements, integrate technical parameters and assure compatibility of all physical, functional and program interfaces.
  • Performs various analyses to optimize total system of systems and/or system architecture.
  • Performs analyses for affordability, safety, reliability, maintainability, testability, human systems integration, survivability, vulnerability, susceptibility, system security, regulatory, certification, product assurance and other specialties quality factors into a preferred configuration to ensure mission success.
  • Develops, maintains and identifies improvements for the planning, organization, implementation and monitoring of requirements management processes, tools, risk, issues, opportunity management and technology readiness assessment processes.
  • Resolves cross-functional technical issues.


Work Authorization:

This position requires an active U.S. Top Secret Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active).

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry.
  • 5 years or more of experience with Systems Engineering.


Typical Education & Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

This position offers relocation based on candidate eligibility. (Basic relocation is available for internal candidates, based on candidate eligibility.).
