Job Description

The Advisor Trainer / Operational Planner reports to and receives work direction derivatives from the Project Manager. The Advisor Trainer / Operational Planner will perform the following duties:

Essential Duties

  • Assist I MEF commander by providing information to ensure combat advise and assist teams are proficient across all Mission Essential Tasks (METs) and have met all theater entry and service-level requirements prior to deployment, and support final training evaluation and deployment certification in support of CG I MEF. Specifically, this includes all activities involved in daily pre deployment training plan (PTP), training, exercise and certification exercise (CERTEX) design as well as supporting the execution of the PTP: planning and execution in support of I MEF combat advisors deploying forward.
  • Continuously update and tailor each combat advisor training PTP to meet in theater requirements of respective combatant commanders, service level requirements, and Mission Essential Task List-based requirements.
  • Coordinate with deployed advise and assist teams and other personnel in order to maintain situational awareness of current enemy and friendly tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs); Command, Control Communications Computers and Intelligence (C4I) and logistic requirements to incorporate lessons learned into current PTP design and the Advisor Training Branch (ATB) TEEP.
  • Support the planning, drafting, revisions, and execution of the ATB TEEP for advice and assist teams.
  • Plan, schedule, coordinate, and support periodic site surveys within the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) Area of Responsibility (AOR) in order to assess current enemy and friendly in-theater tactics, techniques and procedures (TTPs), systems and other matters, and liaison with in theater personnel in order to assess, validate and improve current task force PTP.
  • Manage the preparation of appropriate Letters of Instruction (LOI), ensuring a timely release to both the training audience and I EOTG staff; Manage the preparation and execution of Periods of Instruction (POI) ensuring training conducted in support of the combat advisory mission is carried out effectively and efficiently.
  • Represent I EOTG ATB, as directed, at designated Combat Advisor working groups, Operational Planning Teams (OPT), and/or conferences within the USMC to ensure I MEF equities and requirements are met for combat advisor training, as well as provide insight and SME on I EOTG positions and viewpoints on combat advisors and further develop Marine Corps-wide training of its forwarding deploying advise and assist teams.

Qualifications

Education

  • MA/MS degree.
  • Attended Professional Military Education appropriate to rank at time of separation or retirement from the uniformed service.
  • School of Advanced Warfighting preferred.

Experience

  • Fifteen (15) years of experience
  • Experience on a 2 Star or 3 Star staff is desired.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong communications and presentation skills.
  • Have a working knowledge of the Marine Corps and Joint Planning Process.
  • Able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent organizational, planning and prioritization skills
  • Proficient in computer applications such as Windows and MS Office
  • Expected to perform independently and exercise good judgment.

Additional Information

  • Required to sit for extended periods of time and maintain focus
  • Qualification as an authorized company driver is required
  • All authorized company drivers must have a valid driver’s license, current automobile insurance, and a driving record that is acceptable to the company’s auto insurance provider
  • Ability to obtain or have a security clearance.
  • 15-25% travel expected.
  • Position expected to begin on or about 1 Jan 2021.
