Job Description

The Operational Planner reports to and receives work direction derivatives from the Project Manager. The Operational Planner will perform the following duties:

Essential Duties

  • Provide strategic and planning support for MAGTF operations.
  • Provide SME support to support Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) and Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force (SPMAGTF) commander’s expertise, advice, and mentorship during pre-deployment training events, to include operational planning, shaping, execution and command and control of MAGTF forces in both deliberate and rapid planning situations across the range of military operations.
  • Advise and mentor MAGTF commanders in expeditionary operations within a combined and joint environment.
  • Provide SME support at MAGTF (both expeditionary and amphibious) operations working groups and conferences for both USMC (I MEF, MARFORPAC, MARFORCOM, and HQMC) and USN (THIRD FLEET, CSG-15, ESG-3, and TACTRAGROUP).

Qualifications

Education

  • MA/MS degree.
  • Attended Professional Military Education appropriate to rank at time of separation or retirement from the uniformed service.
  • School of Advanced Warfighting preferred.

Experience

  • Experience on a 3 Star or 4 Star staff is desired.
  • Senior Level: Twenty (20) years of experience

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong communications and presentation skills.
  • Have a working knowledge of the Marine Corps and Joint Planning Process.
  • Able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent organizational, planning and prioritization skills
  • Proficient in computer applications such as Windows and MS Office
  • Expected to perform independently and exercise good judgment.

Additional Information

  • Required to sit for extended periods of time and maintain focus
  • Qualification as an authorized company driver is required
  • All authorized company drivers must have a valid driver’s license, current automobile insurance, and a driving record that is acceptable to the company’s auto insurance provider
  • Ability to obtain or have a security clearance.
  • 15-25% travel expected.
  • Position expected to begin on or about 1 Jan 2021.
