SUMMARY

In this role, the Senior Electrical Engineer will perform and manage medical device electronic circuit and system design, analysis, documentation, testing, change control and manufacturing transfer. The role involves both direct technical contribution as well as guiding the work of other resources.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Assess and define system/subsystem requirements and propose designs

  • Perform design reviews on existing and proposed designs

  • Evaluate, investigate and design electrical systems, products, components, and applications applying knowledge of electronics, software, manufacturing processes and materials; Identify problems, propose and test mitigations and drive continuous improvement

  • Perform measurements using laboratory instruments, such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, function/signal generators, power supplies and multimeters

  • Collaborate on manufacturing test equipment, such as a board level test hardware/software; Create specifications and testing equipment, jigs & fixtures

  • Facilitate progress on projects by training and guiding technicians, create best-practices and work instructions

  • Write and execute and/or manage V&V protocols and reports

  • Create and/or manage procurement specs, incoming inspection documents and fixtures as required

  • Release schematics designed in Altium, including the release of new components and library management

  • Work closely with contract manufacturers in transfer of new designs to production, and in sustaining existing designs as needed

  • Create Bill of Materials according to released SOP's

  • Represent Engineering in CCB meetings

  • Review and sign off for Engineering on change orders

  • Work with Quality on NCMRs and CAPAs

  • Identify risks and contribute to risk analysis documentation

  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrated success in developing electronic medical systems working in an ISO 13485 regulated quality system environment

  • Experience managing external/contract design & manufacturing resources

  • Solid understanding of common measurement and test equipment and methods

  • Ability to read electronic circuit schematics & PCB documentation

  • Experience in design of embedded systems including digital, mixed signal, low level analog and power supply design

  • Hardware design and system integration, design of experiments, laboratory testing, and data analysis

  • Analysis, design, simulation, quick prototype, and debug of new electrical circuits and sub-systems

  • Working familiarity with state of the art electronics design tools such as schematic capture (Altium, OrCAD), simulation (e.g. LTspice) as well as system / software tools (MATLAB, LabVIEW)

  • Solicit, analyze, and document engineering requirements. Maintain and update the requirements and design documentation throughout the entire system life cycle. Perform requirements traceability to ensure proper allocation of system requirements to subsystems.

  • Create experimental platforms to accurately measure performance of both current and proposed solutions

  • Good documentation, record-keeping and data collection skills with attention to detail

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision for most of tasks - knowing what needs to be done and how to do it

  • Demonstrates technical proficiency. Regularly collaborates with others in suggesting valuable solutions as an active contributor. Works on complex problems where analysis of situations or data requires in-depth evaluation. Exercises judgement within generally defined practices in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Interprets data and draws conclusions regarding results used in presented material

  • Must be able to understand job duties and responsibilities, have the necessary skills/knowledge and be willing and able to continue learning and growing within the field.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering 5-8 years of experience in the field of electronics or electrical engineering; or the equivalent combination of education, training, and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been attained. Masters degree in electrical/electronic engineering preferred.
