POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direction and guidance of the Tribal Controller, the Accountant will process
daily accounting, which includes but is not limited to: A/P, A/R, Payroll, and General
Ledger, assist with both balance sheet and month end as needed.
The Accountant I will perform on daily accounting and other finance department support
functions performing a variety of professional accounting duties involved in the
monitoring, development, analysis, maintenance, auditing, adjustment and reconciliation
of accounts, funds and budgets; providing administrative support in the review,
evaluation and development of assigned budgets and accounts; and preparing,
maintaining and auditing a variety of financial and statistical data, records, reports and
statements, including payroll, tax and retirement accounts.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for preparation of accounts payable, including assuring complete
and accurate records, coding and entry into A/P module.
Maintain accurate and complete vendor files.
Complete bi-weekly payroll, including necessary overtime and other calculations
Prepare files and other reports as necessary for payroll compliance and reporting
Document financial transactions by entering account information and cash
receipts on a daily basis into A/R module.
Reconcile the General ledger and other reconciliations assigned by the Controller
or CFO.
Prepare end of month closing as needed.
Maintain compliance with Tribal, Federal, state, and GAAP/GASB regulations.
Prepare support schedules and reconciliations for quarter and annual reports and
preparation for annual audit.
Preparation of travel arrangements and completion of travel closeout.
Responsible for centralized purchasing of organization supplies and other
purchases and ensures compliance with tribal and federal procurement rules.
Ensures control/protection of company assets.
Maintain fixed asset schedule.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with course work in
finance or a related field; 5-7 years related experience and/or training; or
equivalent combination of education and experience.
At least five years’ experience working with PC based accounting software,
preferably Accufund or other governmental accounting software.
Knowledge of mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages and ratios
to practical solutions.
Knowledge of principles and practices of general business administration
including personnel practices and employment laws, general accounting
practices, internal control practices (GAAP/GASB).
Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel is required
Ability to work in an interdisciplinary environment.
Excellent command of English language, spelling, grammar and punctuation.
Very strong interpersonal and effective communication skills, both written and
verbal.
Local travel is occasionally required. Travel outside of the state is infrequently
required. Typical travel time is generally less than a week.
- Must successfully complete a pre-employment drug screen and background
investigation.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning,
kneeling, bending, squatting, and stooping in the performance of daily activities. The
position also requires grasping, repetitive hand movement and fine coordination in
preparing reports using a computer keyboard. Additionally, the position requires near
and far vision in proofreading correspondence and work related documents. Acute
hearing is required. Typically, office work setting conditions.
