The Hignell Companies is looking to add a Payroll Clerk to our Accounting Team. This position is a full-time, benefited position.

Under the general direction of the Director of Finance, the payroll clerk is responsible for completing all tasks necessary to accomplish the organization's payroll processing objectives, including relationships with state and federal agencies. The majority of the employee's time is spent compiling payroll data, wages, and time worked information. This position requires an extremely detail oriented person with knowledge of payroll administration, including state and federal regulations, prevailing wage, and certified payroll.

Essential Functions:

- Analyzes, prepare and inputs payroll data. Typically uses automated system to produce accurate and timely payroll

-Ensures compliance with all applicable state and federal wage and hour laws

- Maintains current knowledge of applicable state and federal wage and hour laws

- Stays current on payroll systems

-Maintains employee's payroll information

-Processes payroll, prepares checks and direct deposit stubs

-Distributes payroll checks to the various department heads for distribution

-May prepare EDD and other state or federal forms

-Compiles payroll data such as garnishments, vacation time, insurance deductions, and all other withholdings

-Produces internal management reports and processes Certified Payroll Reports

-Updates payroll records and prepare reports

-Determines payroll liabilities by calculating employee federal and state income and social security taxes and employer's social security, unemployment and workers compensation payments

-Processes and issues annual W-2 forms to employees

-Maintains employee confidence and protects payroll operations by keeping information confidential

-Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed

-Regular attendance

- Travel and work overtime as required

Mental and Physical Demands:

-Experiences frequent interruptions, required to meet inflexible deadlines; requires concentration and attention to detail

-Requires ability to maintain absolute confidentiality of information recieved

-Required to sit for prolonged periods; exposed to visual display terminal for prolonged periods; dexterity and precision required in the operation of a computer

-Ability to handle multiple phone lines

-Ability to life up to 25 pounds

Core Competencies/Qualifications:

-Commitment to Company's mission

-High school diploma or GED

-Accounting Degree preferred

-Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with co-workers, administrative team and the public

-Two or more years of demonstrated payroll experience, including certified payroll and prevailing wage

-Demonstrated ability to multi-task

-Skilled in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook

-Knowledge of state wage laws and codes

-Strong communication skills
