Join Our Community of Food People!BASIC PURPOSEThe delivery driver position drives a tractor trailer, provides excellent customer service and uses a hand truck or two-wheeler on metal truck ramps to manually unload various products (meats, produce, frozen foods, groceries, dry goods, equipment and supplies) at customer drop-off sites. Returns the empty trailer to the distribution center.Must have a valid Commercial Drivers License (CDL), Class A issued by the state of legal residence with the necessary endorsements and be DOT qualified. Ability to operate manual transmission preferred. All functions must be completed in a safe and timely manner and in accordance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.May also be called upon to perform duties of Backhaul or Shuttle Driver.Perform all pre-trip responsibilities including but not limited to: obtaining andreviewing driver itinerary, checking route numbers and account numbers for assigneddeliveries, counting items and checking customer invoices of products that have beenloaded, moving tractors to the loading dock to attach the preloaded trailers,completing required trailer temperature checks and performing pre-trip safety checkinspections of trucks and trailers according to Department of Transportation (DOT)regulations.Drive to and deliver customer orders to meet the scheduled customer times andmaintain adequate productivity rate to meet delivery schedules. Use electronic timekeeping system to log in time at customer site.Apply knowledge of commercial driving and skills in maneuvering vehicle at varyingspeeds in difficult situations, such as heavy traffic, inclement weather or in tightloading dock areas.Visually survey customer’s site during the approach to determine hazards.Unload products from the trailer with a hand truck or by hand and place items indesignated customer storage areas.Verify delivery of correct items with customer and obtain proper signatures. Collectmoney (cash or checks) where required. Contact distribution center management forauthorization of invoice discrepancies and communicate all errors and returns.As requested by management, drive backhauls which requires picking up product fromvendors and bring back to warehouse for receiving while staying within DOT Hours ofService (HOS) regulations.As requested by management, drive shuttles which requires moving loaded trailerscontaining various food products, equipment and supplies and empty trailers to andfrom remote dispatch sites while staying within DOT Hours of Service (HOS)regulations.Return tractor and trailer to distribution center when route is completed.Perform all post-trip responsibilities including but not limited to: unloading damagedgoods and customer returns and completing necessary paperwork; performing safetychecks on the truck and trailer, unhooking and securing the trailer; fueling (asrequired by the distribution center); parking and securing the tractor and hand truck;completing DOT logs (electronic or manual as required) and company vehiclemaintenance reports (DVIR) and reconcile these with the appropriate companyrepresentative as required.Attend all required company meetings and adhere to all safety practices and companypolicies.Follow distribution center shift times and continue until the work is completed withinDOT HOS regulations.
