About The Big Bear:

The Big Bear Lodge is an exquisitely handcrafted log structure built by a local logger, turned craftsman. It features a spacious dining area with dance floor and fireplace, a cozy, smaller dining area, and 13 stool bar, hand carved from juniper. The Big Bear has been a favorite gathering place in Hines for many years, hosting weddings, graduations, and serving up fantastic burgers and cold beers. After being closed for about a year, it is ready to open again soon with new owners and talented chef. We will be serving simple, delicious American style food and ready to once again become a beloved part of the Harney County community.

About Harney County and Hines:

Harney is the largest county in Oregon and contains some of the most beautiful scenery in the state, including Diamond Lake, Crystal Crane hot springs, and the majestic Steens Mountains. It is ideal for any outdoor enthusiast from hunters and fishermen to backpackers and bird watchers. Hines is a just a few minutes' drive from the county seat of Burns, and only 2 hours from Bend. The roughly 7,200 residents of Harney County are made up of a family ranching community, the vibrant Paiute Tribe, a strong network of artists, employees of natural resource management agencies, and a bevy of small business owners- among many other groups. Some are recent transplants to the community, while others can trace their roots here back to the 1860s. The timber industry created boomtowns of Burns and Hines from the 1930s to 80s, and its decline in the early 90s took many jobs and a chunk of the population away. But the people of Harney county have remained resilient by developing new visions for the future, while continuing to celebrate rich traditions.
