The Maintenance Mechanic assists the maintenance supervisor with the preventative maintenance plan for the walnut processing plant and walnut hullers/dryers. This position takes an active role in preventative plant maintenance and repairs. Performs maintenance duties, fabrication, and emergency repairs while following safety standards and protocols, including food safety, product quality, and personal safety. Acts as a lead on repairs and helps to mentor technicians while working alongside them. Makes educated decisions regarding proper course of action during repairs, works with the maintenance supervisor to schedule and sign off tasks for the maintenance team.
Required Knowledge/Skills/Education and Continuous Training
Must have strong maintenance background with 4 years of relevant experience.
Experience in overseeing projects and a history of working well with others.
Basic understanding of electrical (120V, 220V, 480V), pneumatic, hydraulic, water, and gas systems.
Fabrication and welding knowledge and skills.
Knowledge and experience using hand and power tools.
Ability to communicate effectively in English. Bilingual (English / Spanish) preferred.
Ability to effectively utilize a variety of company software programs.
Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint & Word).
Strong communication, interpersonal, problem solving, multi-tasking, and organizational skills.
Demonstrates ability to motivate team members and possesses a desire for excellence.
Possess a proactive, self-starter attitude.
Must be able to pass and maintain safe forklift and aerial lift operator certification tests.
Ability to work long hours, weekends, and holidays.
Ability to collect data, define problems, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Experience and knowledge working with vendors and ordering parts.
Ability to plan, fabricate and install components on food processing equipment.
Valid CA driver’s license.
Employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
The employee may be required to adjust or move certain mechanical parts and occasionally be exposed to outside weather conditions.
Manual dexterity is required for operation of certain machinery and computers.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate (office to warehouse environment). Occasional exposure to loud noise when visiting certain plant, in-shell, or huller areas. Appropriate hearing protection may be required.
